What's your take on expository world building?

Gathering Fight scene experts for Advice.

I THINK Story_Marc had a video on this. I know I used to see discussions of this a lot on another platform that I used to use (most of those, however, were teasers to get people to buy books or video classes about the subject). There was also another thread in here, about the time I joined (so...

What’s your favorite explanation for fantasy worlds being "real"?

There is an old novel called Silverlock that posits the existence of a "Commonwealth of Fiction" - a world that contains all the major fictional worlds. The Harold Shea stories of L. Sprague DeCamp and others had the titular character wandering around worlds based on operas, fiction, mythology...

    Importing from Libreoffice?

I recently got a new Android phone and find that a lot of stuff appears truncated at the side but is not, it is a display issue. You might be experiencing this, and not a problem with Libre Office, Windows or the site.

How many of you take writing seriously? (Poll)

Neither. (I write because the stories are THERE and want to get out. If I improve, or have fun, or entertain others, that's just a bonus)

Who rates all the new stories 5star?

Didn't know you could change more than once - but one of the fives I gave out was a four originally, then a five after I read the second half of the story. Almost bumped it back down to four when I realized it had been abandoned but didn't think I could, and didn't want to be too petty.

Who rates all the new stories 5star?

If I rated my own work it was accidental. I believe I've given two five-stars and about eight four-stars so far.

Points I would like to have advice on to improve my story.

For audionovels (not sure if this is relevant but just found this out) you need to be between 1250 and 2500 words per chapter. Running into that roadblock full tilt with one of mine!

    Am I COOKING Something here?

Might be more "GameLit" than "LitRPG" - had someone explain the difference to me a few months back (my one foray into that space is kind of halfway between), but don't recall it exactly.

Is it better to have no cover art or AI cover art?

I think they put their own covers on, even if you submit one. Not sure though. I almost went this route, using merged images from Pinterest and Google Images searches (plan was to create a "hybrid" of several photos, and then apply a either a "sketch" or "watercolor" filter and then add text...

It was an old AD&D adventure, so ... the entire party was either the Scarecrow (brainless), the Tin Man (heartless) or both... :biggrin_s:

She can't be the literal Mad God - he's part of MY pantheon, the God of Practical Jokes... Even had his own demiplane (where a road of gold bricks was guarded by the Hostess gang, and led to the Green City ruled by the Lizard Avahzz, only accessible by hitching a ride on a Yellow Submarine) and...

    Am I COOKING Something here?

It also happens in comic books ("Radiation Accidents" generating superbeings, or mutants gaining new abilities, either over time or as a side effect of their mutation) and a few science fiction series that are not game-related but it USUALLY only happens in GameLit or LitRPG. USUALLY.

Is it better to have no cover art or AI cover art?

With one (hopefully soon to be two) exception(s), literally half of my covers were stock images manipulated in PaintShopPro, and half began as AI images that were then manipulated in PaintShopPro. Adding covers pretty much doubled my readers over the first two weeks they were up, regardless of...

    Need help(Powersystem)

I've seen three different takes on Japanese elements, all have five: Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Void (The elements used in Taijutsu/Ninjutsu - each also corresponding to a finger of the hand) Wood, Metal, Air, Water, Fire (same as Chinese) One that was more esoteric and aligned with versions of...
