Kiss a bald dude's head for 1 billion or slap it for 500 million dollars

Slap. The experience of being the person who gave up 500 million in order to slap a bald dude's head (instead of kissing it) is easily worth 500 million. Everyone will ask you why? Then you get to explain all your own stupid cringey thoughts about money, life, slapping, and baldness while...

    Genderbend the MC

Ask me again in a few chapters when the MC partially overcomes her trauma (at being nonconsensually gender bent into a loyal chad soldier) by getting new shapeshifting power upgrades

How does your IRL reflect in your writing?

The Agony of the 1-Star Review - Should We Rethink Harsh Critique?

Not all one-star reviews are created equal. There’s the angry rant about everything that’s wrong with the story, sometimes in great detail. Whether or not the reviewer is venting their own opinion, totally wrong about some things, or offering insightful critique… I think this sort of review is...

    ‘Dark Fantasy’ isn’t done well

Best dark fantasy comes from really extensive dark world-building and pitch-perfect mood throughout, and those two things create the bleak situation and worldview of the characters, not the other way around. Joe Abercrombie’s First Law books, Glen Cook’s Black Company, and and Kentaro Miura’s...

    Crazy Fun Story Chain Game

The porcelain baby opened its mouth, yawning as wide as the maw of a wood-chipper, and inhaled the lamp before it could hit the filthy floor.

Multiple POV is tiring as hell.

It takes more endurance, but if the storytelling is good then there's a payoff in the end when you get to see multiple fleshed-out characters interact. Brandon Sanderson, although kind of basic fantasy in a lot of ways, is very very good at this.

    Resolved Can't get on Scribblehub

Database server is down but the web server is up -- that's why you can see the front page for your stories but not any data associated with it. Hopefully nothing is seriously wrong with the database, but even if that happened, there would usually be a backup.

    Ai checkers are dumb

Just quickly had an AI write two paragraphs, and checked it with this -- it came back as "0% probability this text was written by AI"

    Ai checkers are dumb

The fancy one that's being used for things like newspapers' investigative reports is Originality.AI since it's a different kind of AI that's trained only to recognize patterns in AI and human content. But it's expensive: $1 per 10000 words but with a $30 minimum. Almost all the other AI...

Writing 'Torporous' is not a real word. Should you use it anyways?

Of course you should do this — how do you think the dictionary-approved words languor, languid, and languorous came about? Languid is to torpid as languorous is to torporous. Languorous has a slightly different meaning from languid, it has connotations of luxurious relaxation and not needing to...

    Weaponizing gods and religion

Not that I’m a big fan of Baal, he’s just another near eastern fertility / sky deity. But it’s probably worth keeping in mind that the two prominent sources for claiming that Baal, Moloch etc involved more human sacrifice than the Abrahamic deity are.. A) the Bible, which is pretty clearly...

    Weaponizing gods and religion

You mostly have to know where to draw the line with modern-day religions. Faith Fighter got its internet hosting removed because Muslim organizations protested that having gods and prophets fight each other was inciting intolerance. And it's probably against a lot of site policies to depict...
