For some reason, this description reminded me of a show on, I think it was Fox, a few years back (based on a novel) - they HINTED at vampires in the first episode but didn't show anything, just a weird conspiracy/fleeing across the country thing until the third episode... Blanking on the title...

Just to clarify, by "trashy" do you mean "soap opera"-ish, or "smut filled" or just "of low quality"?

I know - I've always been told I was good at writing poetry, but I usually hated whatever I came up with; either it's too personal or too basic, if that makes any sense.

I've considered it myself, but was never happy with the results and scrapped it every time. But that's just my experience. We can't all be Tolkien (or even Weiss-Hickman, I suppose)

One possible flaw in this example - wouldn't the heroine be the victim of Truck-Kun here and not one of the two guys if you're killing the MC?

Would suggest more like: For the second part: This would be the second time he’d discuss with the stock council. Frankly, *he’d rather them leave him to his own devices. Yet they called, so meet with them he must. If anything, the meeting would give him time to think about his ongoing plans...

I call "bull" on that one... :D I considered entering this contest (especially given the extended range of prizes) but the last one took too much time and brainpower away from my ongoing stories. Maybe the next one.

How about the less frequent but often more useful advice: "Whenever you get stuck, kill a critic"?

Depends if you count additional words - is "Metamorphosis" the same as "The Metamorphosis," "A Metamorphosis" or "Metamorphosis: A Story of Transformation"? :biggrin_s:

First overlong sentence has "strided" - I don't think that's a valid word; the active verb (I think that is the right word; also, past tense but I think it's active form here) form of "stride" is "strode." Present tense is "strides" if you want to make it more immediate. "Shined" in the next...

I would say, compare The Watchmen (where the bad guy saves the world by murdering lots and lots of people and has the cool moment where he "taunts" the heroes with "Do you honestly believe I would be telling all of you this if you had any chance to stop it? It all happened five minutes ago!")...

Except in short horror fiction, I generally dislike that kind of ending - prefer ones where either the heroes win or the end is really ambiguous. But I know there is a demand for that stuff. And sometimes it is done well enough to not be too upset with the ending. Sometimes, but rarely IMO.

I think in dance you are more likely to see the Italian terms than the French ones, and am unaware of any English ones - but the French ones are fairly common, just less common than the Italian (sadly, I only remember the one for Intermission, and am not quite sure of the spelling - Intermezzo I...

Generally, before something goes to formal publication, a team of lawyers WILL research a name and verify that nothing published within the last 20 years in the same "area" (i.e. if a physics textbook has the same name as a fantasy novel, that will probably get a pass, but if two sci fi epics...

Bare minimum 10 - five to post in the first few days, and five more in reserve to post once or twice a week (and keep at least three, ideally at least five, in reserve). But that's just me (and I fell behind on two and one at RR as other projects too precedence)
