I'm a completely new author, new to this site too. I decided to write something for fun because I got bored of being a reader. So naturally I have a lot of questions and things to learn.

I started writing in the POV of a happy go lucky protagonist with some ridiculous things happening to serve as humor.

But I don't intend to write a story that's comedy from start to finish. So recently in chapter 6 I experimented with a POV switch to flesh out the world a little bit more. I've seen this done a lot back when I was reading web novels.

However, it seems quite a bit of people are just not reading past that chapter lol, maybe they liked the POV of the protagonist. Even though I'm not planning to make a single cent out of this, it's making me feel like I've messed something up. It's just not a good feeling in general.

I also tried to run a poll, and no one is voting. So if possible, I want some opinions from people here on whether I should stick with the single POV of the protagonist going forward and work around it.

Here is my novel if anyone wants to take a look:

I can't say whether or not it's better. In my own novel I use 3rd person for main mc and switch to first person for other cast member so the MC's voice never gets mixed up.

My only advice is maybe add "Sofia POV" at the end of the chapter title so that readers know it's temporary. It's how I do it and the majority of a very small sample preferred the 1pov switch.

Use the first POV to build character depth. Use the third POV for worldbuilding and fast-paced action. Use POVs as needed by your narrative.

I'm using first POV for the majority of the time. Third POV is like when your MC does something cool, but can't see it themselves or don't think it's cool. Also for events outside the scope of knowledge of the MC like foreshadowing or just some context.

Good idea, I think I'll add that for these kinds of chapters going forward.

Also thanks for the quick replies everyone! I have a much clearer picture of when to use different POVs now.
