    Flashback

Eh, not all the time, in the proper hands a well-timed flashback sequence can work given the circumstances even if it's not at the start of the story.

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

Well again I wasn't saying kids 10-14 were stupid, but still superheroes seem to still be popular within my demographic. Again I think I can make this all work, yes some powers here and there seem left field, but I did try to make it feel natural to my universe without it seeming too Mary Sue...

    Flashback

No prob, again doing the (Flashback) insert flashback here (end flashback) is more of a script thing, this isnt a script right? If not forget about it just use a small indicator like an ellipsis or something to indicate a change of scenery.

    Flashback

No no it depends on what you are writing and how it's placed into your story. There is no wrong way as long as it fits into your story. All you have to do is something like this (example): Joe was at the park feeding the birds, as he flung pieces of bread on the ground he began to remember his...

Right if Batman was conceived today he would never get off the ground, neither would Iron Man. Again sometimes you have to take a gamble you can't be moping around worried about creating a Sue and just write. I personally feel as long as you know the term exists you are fine and so what if...

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

Anyhow, on topic if my character does read as a Sue that is unintentional. But one must understand if my main character is a Sue so are his fellow superheroes as all of them have at least one trait that can make them a Sue. One of my characters is rich, sue trait An orphan, sue trait Etc. So...

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

The latter, I have Asperger's though a (mostly) high function variation of it on the spectrum. So yes I take things literally now and then, the nature of the beast I'm afraid. Edit: Perhaps it's best to give a summary of how my character gains his abilities so that he doesn't come off as a...

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

Ah, now I'm getting the sense of the disconnect. You see I'm doing my universe building more from a Dungeons and Dragons approach rather than your typical storytelling approach. Where my story is kind of like a science fiction version of the character class system you see in that type of story...

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

Jemini Again lets go over your points: Well truth be told I am not into anime, or at least not as much as I used to. Yes I like the occasional one here and there like Attack on titan, Fullmetal Alchemist or Mobile Suit Gundam so seeking these out is not on the top of my priorities, sorry...

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

Well I do have a logical explanation why my characters have their powers, it all came from the experiment that turned them into cyborg superheroes. And I am thinking maybe stuff like the telepathy is an unintentional side effect as this technology is still new in my universe. Yes its creator...

True but they still don't typically ask how the force works or how superman can fly Also, if the latter is true why did twilight get so popular? :p

Oh for sure I'm just saying that I think they would be more into the action and the characters and may be far more forgiving than an adult would. They would be into comic heroes so it would probably get a pass

The term "Mary Sue & Gary Stu" is a major pet peeve of mine TBH

Jemini Here is my take: To be honest I find the vast majority of Anti Sues to be worse than Sues as most are written in such a way that they take all those sue traits and reverse them in the wrong ways creating characters who are nothing but fat slobs who are hated by everyone and can't do...

    Words to replace said

Yeah, I have been intentionally trying to avoid the word "said" as really it doesn't always give my characters or story its flare. That and asked, yes some don't like unusual dialog tags but they can be a good indicator of your characters personalities and the like.
