    Writing Corruption Arcs

Cool. I prefer to have the corruption be part of the backstory (and maybe a redemption arc somewhere) myself but nice.

How much do you write before releasing the first chapter?

Unless there's a flash drive I have not found or I can recover files from a dead computer it's gone so here was the structure of "Hunter's Moon" as I remember it: Chapter 1: The middle of three brothers narrates as they are driving to the hunting lodge they inherited from their father; the sun...

How much do you write before releasing the first chapter?

Hunter's Moon was an experimental story (each chapter is first person - but different characters get different chapters. This helps me avoid the "Oh, it's first person, so either the character goes insane, becomes a monster or makes it out alive somehow" syndrome that makes 1p horror irritating...

    Writing Prompt "Girlfriend repellent"

Sounds like a magic-based version of "My Best Friend's Wedding" (a terrible waste of the lead actress IMO). Ostensibly a rom-com but really just a nasty dramedy.

How to improve as an author?

Just a side note - I know Asian cinema focuses on food to a ridiculous level (some Italian movies come close but nobody else does AFAICT), but they hardly started it - but they did seem to influence manga and novels as a result. That said, the Finnish Mabinogion has an entire chapter (and not...

How much do you write before releasing the first chapter?

Heh... years worth... When my wife got into serial fiction a few months back I went back over my old hard drives to find unfinished stuff ... and then just started writing new stuff anyway! Off the top of my head: 1. Hunter's Moon (Horror)- unfinished horror story I hope I have on a flash...

A Lesson on Exposition Everybody Need to Know

Nice. Wish I'd seen this years ago. Learned most of these lessons the hard way. I usually try to use the "third party" trick myself.

Ok, I think I'll do it too. Build a character for my story.

Allegedly that was based on one of the 300 or so various vampire legends out there in the real world. Others (Marvel Comics) have them created by a spell gone wrong in Atlantis, extradimensional invaders (Beyond the Supernatural RPG). people who sold their souls for immortality (a few different...

Writing Small tip on writing fight scenes.

I find I tend to minimize fight scenes - which sometimes works, sometimes feels like "cheating" - then again, a few days ago I finished one of the longest ones I've written and the biggest challenge was that both combatants could fly.

How much do you write before releasing the first chapter?

The only story posted here was mid-chapter 10 when I posted, and is now up to 13 complete, 14 in progress, with 5 posted (will be 6 Monday). But the stories not yet posted (not sure if they will go here or elsewhere) range from 3 to 54. The other one I am tempted to post here is currently...

Recommendations Different explanations of cultivation mechanisms

So far all of the (few but my wife keeps stumbling on them as audiobooks) Cultivation stories I've read seem based on Chan Buddhism, which is about 60% Buddhism and 40% Taoism (primarily Taoist Alchemy)...

    gnome protagonist

I've seen (even once started writing one) stories with gnomes as part of an adventuring company, and there was that coffee table book about gnomes and their anatomy and adventures. And there are three children's movies about gnomes. But that is all I'm aware of, unless you use "gnome"...

    Someone slaps you with money

I would suspect the concussion happened before the "hitting with money" began, personally.

    Does that make me old?

I mostly listen to stuff from the 60s through the 80s, and my childhood was basically the 70s so ... you're a freakin' baby. :D

    Stories that I hate

I wonder if this is due to the Japanese historically being more likely to HAVE slaves (and to treat them with a strict code of honor), than to BE slaves? I know it is part of their history that is glossed over a lot but there were reports from the two or three times they occupied one of two...

How confident are you in rawdogging a flight?

Have done it when very tired and just did not feel up to turning on the Kindle to read something (actually spent most of the time thinking of ideas for game stuff and character backstories I never really developed). Do not recommend if its a long flight, but can be cathartic for anything under...

How to introduce a new term to your novel?

I think a lot of the reason why so many characters have Systems, Familiars, Spirit-Guides, Soul Keepers, etc. is to get around this - the guide/system/etc. is native to the world and can feed as much, or as little, information to the MC as the story needs to not grind to a screeching halt while...

    Someone slaps you with money

USD, Australian dollars, Canadian Dollars? It makes a difference... And is he holding the money hard enough for his hand to make contact too or does he just hit me with the bills? If there is actual pain involved then definitely keeping the money, and maybe, after a few weeks, having the dude...

Okay, Last One! When it comes to a High Fantasy setting, which FMC species shines best?

Goblins are kind of complicated - do you mean the D&D "little, vicious humanoids" or the Warhammer "Smaller, *slightly* smarter orks", or the "less attractive fairies, who usually have a shoe fetish of sorts" of many European myths, or the weird little creatures who manage the finances of Harry...
