    Writing Gods

In my stories, the gods are generally playing a four-dimensional chess game using cats ... er protagonists and antagonists with free will ... as playing pieces, unable by law or custom, to confront each other directly, or to directly interact with mortals who have either not explicitly asked for...

Language in Fantasy when lacking the origin behind the word.

So far most of my stories have included modern or near-modern characters in worlds like our own, so the issue has been more including non-standard terms in ways that make sense. I try to avoid specific historical references if not writing modern stuff (nobody is going to face their Waterloo if...

How to Write Sex Scenes That Matter

Did not realize I'd been doing this... I think this is my problem with pornography in general - either the sex scene seems to just STOP the story altogether to show sex, kind of like a speed bump, or there never was a story, just sex. And then there was the one I tried to watch that switched...

What romance tropes you like and don't?

I like playful relationships - ones where either everyone except the couple already sees them as a couple or where they are just friends who play around and realize there is something more to it. Also tend to write "Cinderella" stories where one character is only noticed after making a major...

do u prefer writing protagonists or antagonists? :o

If I'm writing first person, the character I am writing is always the protagonist - in their own mind. They may be the real villain of the story, but they do not realize it (I rarely do this, but it can be fun, or at least cathartic). If I am writing third person, I do like to slip into the...

    Written into a corner.

The MC plans to keep the wager. The brat tries to talk him out of it, and loses his temper when the MC insists on taking the honorable path - but this loss of temper triggers something; maybe it frees an Eldritch Horror, or causes some random bursts of magic to erupt, or summons a Bugblatter...

    I need story ideas

Have them jump into the future, see how awful the TV version of the story resolution is, jump back to see the original proposal (it had some relationships planned that made the Sersei/Jamie thing look tame, and Tyrion was supposed to be the ultimate villain due to a bizarre love triangle), and...

    A.I. in writing

I try to avoid AI myself but have no objections to other people using it as a TOOL. The problem comes when they use it as a CRUTCH and rely on it too heavily, IME (or when they rely on it to read their work as an audio novel... some of the results are unintentionally hilarious, some are outright...

    Help needed!!!

Having talked to someone who coded AI professionally, if you are forced to rely on it, then you need to write better prompts. With the right prompts it can overcome almost any hurdle. But, the best way is to either learn English or partner with a good (and ideally bilingual) editor who can...

Why do my chapter view counts not decrease linearly?

Wonder if it counts times you open it to edit or look for/respond to comments as individual views? Some chapters may get more comments than others so may get more views even if they are actually read fewer times?

    How often should you post?

I was at 9 chapters when I started the one I have up here. Did two the first week and one a week since. Now am at, I think 16 chapters and put the seventh up today.

Someone who wants to give their thoughts

Neat - don't see either used all that much, but India has a rich mythology and folklore tradition that sees more use in films than in text (at least that sees more use in film than on the written page, at least in terms of what gets exported to the West)

How would you deal with your Protagonist as a Mid-stage Villain?

"You see," he said, "I love games. It may prove to be my fatal flaw. Card, dice, board, word all of them. But my passion, my true love, are role playing games for there I can be the hero, or my favorite, the hero and the villain at the same time..."

Writing Prompt Faster than Light Racing

They kind of addressed this in a Doctor Who serial in the 80s, "Enlightenment" - a group of Celestials build FTL ships (that resemble 1800s sailing vessels but can fly in space!) and kidnap "ephemerals" (humans) to crew them for a race across the galaxy.

    Most Memorable Scenes in Fiction

In fiction, Robert Bloch provided some of my favorites... From a short story I don't remember the title to: "She's in the other room, decorating the Christmas tree..." (as decorations...) From Psycho when they find Mother just before she attacks. Ramsey Campbell's "The Count of Five" had a...

How would you deal with your Protagonist as a Mid-stage Villain?

Not the one posted on this site. Heck, for most of the story he is just a normal, though smart-ass, cop... But some of the other ones yeah, kind of. And one of the mid-bosses too; guy may be stronger than all but the true ultimate bad guy (despite being a "mere mortal"). He would be the fun...

How would you deal with your Protagonist as a Mid-stage Villain?

I know - and I have too many different possible combinations to give a single answer.

Would my story be an isekai if the cast stay on Earth until they venture to another dimension later?

Unless they die to travel (though maybe the humiliation/discomfort trigger for "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" counts as Isekai?) or inhabit other bodies I do not THINK it counts but... it is a very nebulous term as a discussion in another thread showed.
