    I have a question

Except for the "Every Friday" (and implied "regular readers") I have pretty much been there. Just stick to a release schedule for one book - you'll get to the important chapter eventually. And the muse may be fickle and play hard to get for a few days or weeks so best to be safe... OR set up...

    Question about certain trope.

Ah - the classic example is probably Persephone in Greek mythology - Hades kidnapped her to be his wife and she was ordered to not eat or drink anything while she was there or she would never escape. She held off for a while but finally broke down and ate six out of twelve pomegranate seeds...

Writing How do I get the motivation to write

For me, every once in a while bits of a story DEMAND to be told so I sit down and write them if I can (and sweat a little and hope to remember them when I have a chance to write if I can't... and then forget them 90% of the time). So the motivation has never been an issue for me, just finding...

See What Stories are Linking Your Story as a "Similar Series"

Usually, people write in genres that interest them so seeing what is similar can help create a reading list, and also see how some tags work - or fail to work - as some of the "similar to..." stuff... well... really is not.

    To all dudes of SH

Not sure what a "government name" is and the only nickname that I know of that I ever had that stuck was "Iggy"

    Question about certain trope.

The best I've seen is at the end of "Big Trouble in Little China" - Jack Burton does all this stuff to help Grace, and then, at the end, when she clearly (finally) is interested in him... just gets back in his rig and drives to the next town ("Aren't you going to kiss her?" "Nope"). I think...

What happened to An Eldritch Horror Fell In Love?

I think this was one I saw mentioned in another thread as having moved to a pay site. Either that or someone lamented that it hadn't in a thread about stories that had moved to pay sites.

Your opinions on the way that dark elves are written in fantasy novels

We-el Vampires are much more varied than that. The Chinese "Hopping Vampire" is more of a ghost that can assume one of three material forms - a songbird to charm victims, a rain cloud to travel, and its normal, monstrous form with long, sharp fingernails, powerful legs, an inability to walk...

What series you didn't like, but want too like

The first book was great. Made me wish I had Robert Jordan's ability to describe things (but, oddly, not people) so intricately that I felt like I was THERE. By the third book, I wished HE had MY ability to gloss over descriptions and only point out unusual or exceptional details. By the...

How would you deal with your Protagonist as a Mid-stage Villain?

Depends on which story. In several, the mid-stage villains often either slink off into the shadows, possibly to return in a sequel, or wind up providing key information to defeat (or, in at least one case, to REVEAL) the main villain, usually by switching sides, sometimes just before death...

    Writing Corruption Arcs

I had been wanting to see it for years; was very happy to see two versions running back to back on Universal Classic Monsters channel on Roku last night. Still have not seen the two versions considered the best (a silent version and the first Universal black and white one - part of a quest to...

If you could turn back time, where do you want to leave your PP drawing?

I would consider slipping it into the Voynich manuscript ... but that might be the key to unlocking the whole thing so maybe not worth the risk?

People/MC in fiction that fight but keep both hands in pants pockets the whole time.

I could literally see that happen to Saitama... or maybe it did - there's a lot more in the manga than the anime...

Ok, I think I'll do it too. Build a character for my story.

Ever since the age of fourteen, Parker Wallace (who recently celebrated an 18th birthday) has been plagued by dreams of a snake and a large ball of fire. For the last year, Parker, who is best described as "Bishonen" - nobody is completely sure if it is a boy or a girl, and Parker likes keeping...

Writing Prompt Faster than Light Racing

So most of the work would be rapid-fire mathematics and keyboarding. The latter I could still handle, the former I would need a really good computer or great assistant to handle now.

Writing Prompt You are transmigrated into the novel you just gave a bad review

Ouch. Only recall two novels I read enough of to dislike enough to give bad reviews and only finished one: "Portrait of the Lady" by Henry James. Ugh. Hopefully I'm not in one of the lead male roles, and if I got stuck in the lead female role... well, if there's free will, the story would...

    Welcome thread for the newbies!

Guess I should have said "hi" two weeks ago... :D My name is my name (got the name of the dead grandfather for my first name and the then-living one for my middle name). Currently writing while between jobs so have a good backlog in case I want to do more than one story here (though looking at...

    Writing Corruption Arcs

Watching a movie and a remake of it that could have benefited from this. The Hammer remake of "Phantom of the Opera" did a little more believable (but far more brutal) corruption arc than the Claude Raines version (still have not seen the older B&W ones), but in both cases it seems a little too...

What series you didn't like, but want too like

Can't give a specific answer for the question asked but do know three things that I did not like the first time I encountered them but loved them on a second viewing: Orphan Black Firefly Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

If you could turn back time, where do you want to leave your PP drawing?

Carve it into the plates of Guttenberg's original printing press.
