Authors & Reviews/Comments (Also, Am I being copied?)

A question - is the other person copying you or perhaps showing you what they think a properly edited version of your story should look like? Or are they taking inspiration from your work to write something similar? Your best course of action would be to ask that person which they are doing.

How much time does it take for series to be public

Longest I had to wait was about 18 hours. Shortest was six. Usually about 12. But I have only made three public series here.

Avoid Protagonist Issues with The Eight Universal Protagonists

The Survivor and the Escapist sound very much alike. I tend to write protagonists who fall into two archetypes - usually a Champion and Lover or Champion and Self-Saboteur. Or I write ensemble groups which cover, more or less, all the archetypes at different times, usually with a leader who is a...

Wrote this up real quick, what do you think?

Could avoid the repetition - "...it was mysterious, harsh and made for..." Seems like his scent WAS sweat mixed with fear, or shaped by it. A what? are "tide surfers" a type of herd animal? Or "it was like the beating of the tides that a surfer heard."? Should probably be "Mutants were..."...

Chat, I have a funny concept.

Tried but there were so many little grammar issues and moments where it looked like a spell-check had suggested the wrong word and had it accepted that I had to give up. Give this a good editing and it should be cool.

    Anybody looking to trade reviews?

Just an FYI there is a section below Author General explicitly for review swaps or feedback requests.

Authors! Fantasy World Bingo for you!

Ah yeah... I have some words like that but have never had the patience to develop full languages. Then again, from some of his other writings, Tolkien may not have "made up" Elvish; his essays on "Fairyland" sounded like he'd actually BEEN there...

    The hypocrisy of authors

Some companies still employ it though - Wizards of the Coast has a lot of AI writing and art in their latest releases, or so I've been told (by both fans disappointed by this, and by people who hate the company pointing out yet another thing they've "done wrong") - have not consumed much of...

    Vocabulary Shortage

I have a particularly voluminous, though frequently erroneous, vocabulary myself.

    The hypocrisy of authors

There is a thing called "Due Diligence" - if you use someone else's art (ESPECIALLY photographs that show people), you really should try to locate the original artist (and any people shown in the image) for permission. Sometimes this is impossible, for example you find the image on Pinterest or...

Chat, I have a funny concept.

Absolutely - tossed it out in a "Writing Prompts" discussion and had no idea where to take it from here, to be honest.

Authors! Fantasy World Bingo for you!

What are Conlangs? Between Worlds gets "Complex Magical System," "Free Space," "Dragon Riding," "TTRG inspired" (this one almost everything I've written and posted somewhere probably gets). Also there are multiple "Chosen Ones" so not sure if that falls under "Chosen One" or not. Have not...

Writing How long can a one shot be?

That would be a mini or maxi-series.

Chat, I have a funny concept.

I started something kind of like this - a guy who wrote (bad) Isekai is hit by a bus and finds out he'll be reborn as a school girl. Not a magical one, or one with special powers, just a teenaged girl, in school... Just got two chapters done and lost interest... (Test) Fall of the Isekai King...

Writing How long can a one shot be?

Any story can be as long as it needs to be. And they can be forced to be longer or shorter, but will almost always suffer for it.

If you could revisit a memory but couldn’t change anything, only observe, would you do it? What moment in your life would you choose, and why?

If I could revisit any moment then I'd be interested in several. If I had to pick a single one, then the only way this would interest me would be if I could see how it played out with different decisions made by following each one down the "thread" to the present time to see how I turned out...

    Likeable but annoying characters?

Could be something like the joke gnomes from Dragonlance - they are reckless inventors who overexplain everything (very fast "soIjustconntectedthispistontothisgearand..." "SLOW DOWN" "Oh, I just connected this piston to this gear and now it should go very fast, or go boom. Win-win!" "OK, just...

I gained another negative rating on RR :(

Well, it wasn't me - I could not access RR at all yesterday.

Does the story exist before the edits, or do the edits create the story?

Stories can be obnoxious beasts. Was working diligently on three when two others just jumped the queue and took over - granted one has a deadline (and is almost done, so I should be able to get back to the important ones) - but the stories definitely exist out there in some form, even before...

[Learning writing] How do you describe this man's facial features?

A man with a squarish face, full cheeks, scraggly and unkempt eyebrows, a ghost of a moustache and a neophyte goatee.
