You're doing better than all but one of my stories - most of which have been up a good deal longer.

The first chapter is sorely in need of a firm editor. Too many little issues to point out without copying and "redlining" half the document. Really could use a few more commas at a minimum. Also, as you say this is fanfiction - which character(s) should be known to the target audience?

I hope not. The real story only intrudes about every third chapter in "Between Worlds" - and does not REALLY get going until about chapter 40...

It is possible to make anything work in any length/style. The LitRPG genre tends to lend itself to longer arcs due to the need for clear but gradual character growth to "feel" like an RPG, but the right author could make shorter arcs work well, and the wrong one could make longer arcs flat out...
