What’s the most emotional animal companion in fiction that moved you to tears?

Aside from some real-world stories (both "novels" like "Travels with Charlie" or various stories I've seen online) the only fictional accounts that I remember clearly that moved me like that were: The (first time the) cat dies in Pet Semetary Old Yeller. The only real-life one that did, that I...

    How the stats work

It's possible they read it one sitting, or that they kept it open in a tab (I've done this with a few, then accidentally closed the tab and had to hunt for the story) but never saved it (perhaps their list is so long they just would lose it there too). It's also possible they accidentally or...

Guys I don't know if I'm doing alright or doing badly at writing my story.

Unless later developments make earlier story points make no sense, don't re-write until you are done with the first draft of the story (or, if you're writing in large arcs, until you're done with the first major arc). Just plow on ahead or you'll get lost in your own ideas. I've had this...

Lots Of Views, But No Favorites, Where Am I Dropping The Ball?

You have two chapters up. People generally only look at the synopsis and cover until you hit at least five, maybe ten (I tend to jump in when the chapter count is between those), and from that either add it to their "To Read" list or decide it's not for them. The few who need more "coaxing" to...

    POVs?

I've been doing it in boxed text since 1984... just not for a full document. If I ever did, it would probably be a short story like two of my favorite Ramsey Campbell stories (one where "you" are coming back from a visit to The Count and wonder why your wife has poison in the windows, vitriol by...

    Omegaverse Medieval Ability Story?

The only place you can directly post graphics is here in the forums. Most people use image hosting sites (though a few have threads in the artist area full of graphics that their stories link back to).

    Daily Writing Process Tips/Tricks?

I have one story that time constraints are forcing me to pants. Twice now, I'd planned to have arcs go in specific directions , only to have them twist around and become something different halfway through(one a "have to earn the rancher's respect to move on" became a "rancher wants daughters...

    POVs?

As an aside, people keep claiming only new writers use first person. I was writing (nothing worth publishing but stuff that got decent grades) for about five years before I even attempted first person, and then did it as a challenge. But then, I do tend to go about things in a backwards manner.

    First Arc Popularity Poll

Chose "One of the comments" in the hopes this is like a Monty Python sketch where blancmanges invade from space, killer Keep Left Signs wander the countryside, and the penguin on top of the television set explodes. Your character background sounds kind of like the character I considered writing...

    Daily Writing Process Tips/Tricks?

Find what time I can to type out the rough draft on my phone. If I'm writing for PocketFM, make a second pass in their app before posting (still on the phone), otherwise on my laptop in Google Docs and then a third in the site's editor.

Sad thing is... that's better than my handwriting.

Have you guys ever had a really good idea for a story that you didn't pursue/expand on?

Probably a lot. Not sure if they were GOOD ideas, but definitely ideas.

    Looking for Chapter-01 feedback o/

When I graduated college, I was 9 credits (three classes) short of a minor in Psychology (and 3 each for minors in English and Religion) - but had a double major so it didn't matter. The class that almost convinced me to go for that Psych minor (or maybe go back to school for a Psych degree) was...

Looking for feedback. ChatGPT been hella glazing so need someone to take me down a notch??will give detailed feedback for anyone that gives me any!!

Well... there are ways around this. For example, in Strange Awakening, the MC describes a lot of people - many to compare them with what he knew in his previous life, both for their own sake and for the readers' - or because these are people he never met before or met in completely different...

Writing 1,000, 1,500, or 2,000 --- What’s the ideal word count per chapter

I aim for 1500 and usually miss by 200 in one direction or the other.

    Super powers.

I would want something like Ultraboy's power - any one power (plus all "side effects" needed to survive using it) at about 2% better than Superman, but only that one power (at a time). Either that or a "key" device (Beta Capsule, Delta Plasma Pendant, special glassess) from a Giant of Light to...

Recommendations A villainess died and reincarnated as a cow

Probably. By the way, if the villainess in this story were Hindu, being reincarnated as a cow (even the cow of the MC's family) could be seen as an UPGRADE...

What's the common thing to do?

Don't do "the common thing" do "your own thing." Now, in general, the best bet is to post five to ten chapters spread out over the first two days, and then release later chapters at a steady pace - whatever you know you can maintain.
