Why don’t the monsters in your world attack cities often?

Which world are you asking about? In some they do... in some they try to keep a low profile and pick off individuals. In some there are none.

    Potential stories on offer

Merge them. The nation exists in a sci-fi universe and the fluffies are part of it's citizenry!

I am grateful, but who the heck is giving out these 5-stars ratings???

The FIRST approved story, not every story. I don't think mine had been up long enough for anyone not born of Kryptonians to be able to read when it got its first five star... But the others all got theirs after a day or two (if they ever did

Stupid brain! Stop stealing my words!

I've had this happen more in conversations than in writings, but have had it happen there too. Think it's kind of a stress-induced short-term aphasia.

I am grateful, but who the heck is giving out these 5-stars ratings???

I wonder if maybe the software gives the first approved story of each writer a five star rating as encouragement? I believe four of the six ratings Strange Awakening got came from readers, one from me not believing you could rate your own stories and testing it, and one just appeared when it...

What strange creatures have you found in mythology, legends, or depicted historically?

Wish I'd kept all my notes. There was a monster in New Hampshire (per folklore) that likely inspired H. P. Lovecraft (he visited the area after the first sitings leaked out, spent a few weeks there, and then wrote The Dunwich Horror a few months later) - it sounded a lot like a classic gryphon...

Have you guys ever had a really good idea for a story that you didn't pursue/expand on?

It seems incredibly common among creative types. Some degree of autism also seems frequent (usually Asperger's Syndrome)... I have the former, but, by all accounts "am not smart enough" to have the latter.

I am grateful, but who the heck is giving out these 5-stars ratings???

Diamond in the Rough: 2 Five-Star Strange Awakening: 6 five-star Between Worlds: 2 Five-Star, 2 Three-Star Blood Diamond: 1 five-star Zero stars on the other two.

No, transformations aren't supposed to hurt! =P

There are a lot of non-magical shape-shifters out there. Chameleon Boy (Legion of Superheroes), Changeling/Beast Boy (Teen Titans), Mystique (X-Men), various Martians (DC Comics), Skrulls (Marvel comics) all have biological/pseudoscientific mechanisms for their transformations. The movie Dog...

    Looking for Chapter-01 feedback o/

Oh, I'm not either - but met a few in college and more shortly after. Been including LGBTQ characters, on and off, in my writing since the 1990s - only time one was a focus was as part of an ensemble cast (and her sexuality led to more asides than anything else - like her rating the girlfriends...

    Power Creep

Focus on story and characters and don't sweat the power creep. Charmed had four seasons of insane power creep (especially after Shannen Doherty left/was ousted) but people kept coming back for the characters (sure, being played by hot actresses and actors helped but that alone did not carry it).

Why is my cover being rejected?

I suspect the proportions of the women shown are setting off red flags. Especially with that first image.

    Bout classical fiction

Ah, some more obscure stuff that inspired better-known works: The Monk by Mathew Gregory Lewis Anything by A(braham) Merritt- The Moon Pool, The Metal Monsters, etc. Though I personally don't like them (his style is a little too dense and unfocused for me), they are important - the works of...

Not receiving any response from Scribblehub email?

Maybe post a copy down in the artists area (where direct linking seems to work) for feedback?

Help me decide what to read next

It was the only thing I read by Doyle (including his short horror stories) that I didn't like. I have no clue why he picked the "targets" he did, but he did tie it back in to England somewhat. May have to re-read it.

    Feedback on a short story?

My wife explained it to me but I don't recall - I think there are "levels" to it; at the basic (free) level, you can check out only one or two books that a library you have a valid library card for has e-licenses for (it appears that most books now come with two e-licenses per physical book if a...

No, transformations aren't supposed to hurt! =P

Altered Beast maybe? Remember being amazed by the graphics but too confused by the controls to even try to play it myself.

    Feedback on a short story?

You can probably get a lot of them through the public library (that's where I read most of the Peanuts books when I was little) or probably on Libby (a virtual library app my wife swears by).

    Looking for Chapter-01 feedback o/

In his book Flim-Flam, James Randi had a section about where, when he was starting out he got a job as a writer for a newspaper. The astrologer went on vacation and he, as the new guy, was tapped to take her place (then she sent a letter saying she was not returning, so his name appeared on the...
