  • Imagine a fiction that makes you laugh on the surface (because of the absurd comedy), in the middle layer (the fictional message) makes you crying (because the scenes contain a relatable moral message), in the hidden layer it makes you shiver (because of the dark psychological thriller twist).
I have decided to stop interacting with fellow writers in this forum asking for help. My feedbacks and guides are all about increasing readers engagements and enjoyment when what most struggling writers need is emotional validation. I will leave that to you. You are the expert here.

Ignore or delete this message if this make you uncomfortable.

Sis... why are you devoting your dedication to me? I can't be active on the forum all the time. I have priorities. Do what you like. Ignore my status or answers if they bother you. Regards.:blob_melt:

It's not just me. Other people also think you are the most trusted user in the forum.

The way people ignore my answers or react make me believe my answers bother people.

You don't have that effect on you. People actually respond to what you said positively.

That's not true. I've deleted my status and answers several times because they could potentially offend others, regardless of whether they were true or not. You can't please everyone. It's better to just be honest with yourself.
Sounds like your kind of story.
One thing about tags, readers don't remember your character's identity or mannerisms as much as you. If we stop reading and come back later, it will be harder to know who's speaking even if they have a unique voice without tags. I think said and asked should be encouraged for new writers especially. It will help them get a feel for more impactful dialogue.
Today... I learned: reader validation makes your fiction more likely to be popular. However, author validation makes your fiction more likely to be worth reading. If a writer is chasing popularity, then do more market research, promotions and reader testimonials. If a writer is looking for narrative (artistic) quality, then learn from other (established) authors!

A common mindset mistake writers make is confusing narrative quality with popularity. Studying creative writing doesn't guarantee popularity, even if they graduate with a degree in literature. But it's entirely possible for them to write quality fiction (literary).

Align expectations and process. Learn creative writing. The result will be the ability to write fiction.

Very true. But. I would say that there are a handful of basic "marketing" things that authors should engage in despite their writing skill
Good shock value should make the reader feel like, "D*mt it! He did that crazy thing?! I totally missed the hint in the first chapter."

Not like, "Why did he suddenly do this crazy thing?! There was no hint, he was always portrayed as kind." :blob_melt:
From Sweetest breath from thee, my princess queen, Eldoria
Like honey seas, and sugar treats of small and mass euphoria
With violet eyes and vibrant hair as beautiful Alliaria
A kiss I ask from thee, or three, or i might not believe, you see
For I am the very model of demoness hysteria.
:blob_aww: Do not fret, the Odyssey, one of the greatest literary works of Western culture, also looks back at what had happened.

I tend to block out anything that makes a narrative less interesting to me. If you tell me the end, my brain erases it automagically. Unless it's really vague, I didn't mind the little statement at the start of Boku no Hero.

There were so many characters and such scale there were unlimited possible outcomes for what the ending would look like.

An example of a review from an editor posing as a casual reader. :blob_melt:

Furthermore, several famous authors have tried to avoid plot armor. One way is by creating multiple protagonists who could die at any time.

A Song of Fire and Ice is a famous example, and one reason why this fiction is hated.

We also have an anti-plot armor writer here, for example @MFontana

    Guilty as charged.
Primarily on account of the genre I do most of my writing in (Dark-Fantasy), and in how it is incorporated into some stories (IE: Dragonball) to the point that there are zero lasting consequences, and the same exact formula is repeated arc after arc.
As far as I'm concerned, if you've got lasting consequences, and sustained dramatic tension, you're working without plot armor

Well, I've got the lasting consequences in just about everything I write. The sustained dramatic tension part is up to the audience.
I thank an admin for finally removing one of the 'weird fiction' recommendations on my fiction page. Now... I can look at my fiction homepage without feeling weird about seeing it in a similar series. :blob_melt:

Very strange... imagine you see a gentle mother hugging her little daughter. A wholesome and heartwarming sight.

But when you turn to the other side, you see a half-naked woman.

How would you feel about this inconsistency?
