If I remember right, weren’t summoners drafted originally to fight sin? Hence why Shuyin tries to use that giant machine to save Lenne?

In the future, many become summoners to try and follow what Yunalesca did. However, this is more likely a requirement every 10 years.

And a Guardian, given by the role. One of them becomes the Final Aeon.

So before the events a Guardian, you probably don’t want to be the Side Character that ends up as the next Sin.

In the second, when the weapon attacks. You’ll be bodied by an even worse one.

Shuyin and Lenne predate Sin. Shuyin was trying to stop a war to protect her. The creation of Sin was what stopped the war because Yu-Yevin and Yunalesca were on crack and chose to make a monster that unified humanity to fight. It's also what led to the summoned City that Tidus was from. Side note but super nerdy fan theory is that Tidus was the dream memory of Shuyin.

... I may have played X and X-2 a little too much.

Also I would hate to end up in that world and then end up as one of the dreaming people who create the summons. Just perpetually stuck there while wannabe heroes force me to embody some force. I'd probably be a plant type...

originally, but that's a thousand years before the iteration I would've just seen High Lady Yuna defeat. As for the second, I have faith that the high summoner will save Spira again, just as she did before.

There’s a certain appeal to Pokemon. It’s fairly modern, as even in the first game I played there was a game console at your tv. It’s surprisingly safe, assuming you have a Pokemon, as it is literally commonplace for ten year olds to go on unchaperoned pilgrimages funded by their own pocket money. If the plot for this region is finished, the big issue with a random legendary being exploited by a criminal gang has been addressed by a wandering child already.
I would like pokemon too... but it's then meats I worry about... or the weird clone nurses and police.

If I had a nickel for every time a massive extended family in Pokemon all had the same gender, basic appearance, and career I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

My game, which my book is slightly based on. It doesn't exist though, so...

The only real choice I can think of is pokemon... Everything else is either too dangerous, too medieval, or too 'chosen one/1%' to let me live happily. At least with pokemon, I can live as a breeder or ranger and still get by.

The main things I'm looking for in a game to live in would be free respawns, respecs, and easy progression that doesn't discriminate. There are actually a few games that have that, usually MMOs, but I'd worry about getting killed in a cutscene or something if there's too much general strife in the world...

Rune Factory. It's as safe as it can get in a fantasy world, both monsters and human have an in-bound return spell so they never actually die in battle, they are pretty chill with regulations (more than half the shopkeepers there wouldn't even be allowed near a store here), and unless I start in that militaristic empire, I'm allowed to live and settle down wherever I want to and do whatever.

Assuming I'm not the main character, Slime Rancher. Ranching or at least slime-related businesses seem to be common as there's a market for slime byproducts with dynamic prices. So it's common enough for me to get in on it and make money by taking care of relatively low-maintenance cute things while I fly around with my jetpack and gravity gun.

Even hard difficulty would only propose an actual threat to your life when you don't segregate the slimes. Put the slimes in different pens and be cautious when you go on an adventure and you can live a nice slow life.

Other than that something with non-demonic magic but I don't know a lot about many fantasy games that would realistically work for non-main characters.
