I tried writing a pseudo-Isekai harem litrpg once, but then I got hit by my usual worldbuilding disease, the setting turned from Isekai into a digimon-esque layered world encroachment scenario with slight time travel elements (a reset button in an enclosed space), and now it is part of my multi-dimensional cinematic headcanon overlore where chaos and order fight proxy wars for total control of a multi-layered alternate history earth. I need help! The worldbuilding! It's controlling me!!! Must... not...must...build... lore...

But to answer the "low-effort rapeface McMurderhobo MC system harem stories" slowly taking over? Remember when Sword Art turned everything MMO-but-real before Isekai became the "Open World" of writing? That (d)evolved into litrpg stories because authors needed an easy way to push some bullshit into their story, and "a deity did it" seemed to have been too believable, so they forced gaming elements into it, because Dragon Quest. Now they of course have to turn the whole story harem since that's the king of genres (aka. the lowest-hanging fruit), and turn the smuttiness up, because sex sells, right? Then, add in the constant need for instant gratification that the younger generations seem to propagate because social media made them have less attention than a goldfish, and the glorious idea of "Instant hypnosis eyes rape level system" (or some other bullshit) is born.

Also, if anyone ever finds a cute, wholesome, and fluffy harem story that isn't smut, system, or pushover MC, please do post. There's a market for it!
Now in times of "Romantasy" and "Dark Fantasy" """novels""" (smut, but legal for minors to buy, IMO) taking over the market, we need to preserve the innocence of minds and people!

Honestly 90% of this thread is answered with this
B-but the rape, there is no need for rape. It's for femcels who read werewolf smut, not for men!

Putting the thread back on track.

I agree with this part. And I wish more people would start thinking past the popular trend and look further than an oversaturated market. It's not even about trendsetting, it's tracing back our steps.

hmm...have you read (not the anime) Trapped in a dating sim : The world of otome games is tough for mobs?

It is finished now, the MC isn't a beta MC, but doesn't accept the harem route until much later in the LN. At the end he ends up with multiple wives but only 3 are the main wives and key to most of the story.

It is probably my favorite LN right now, despite the fact he doesnt get laid (off screen) until the end of last novel, due to him having a lot of children then

I started writing one but only got to CH 5 before the stuff with PocketFM started, and, as they would never accept that (not exactly reverse harem as the MC was two people who died and a goddess restored them to life with what she considered the best parts of each - mostly the guy's mind and the woman's body... but she winds up with a goddess, a model, her male agent, a woman she might eventually really love and possibly the evil god who is trying to destroy her ... but I hadn't gotten that far and there was a lot of sex in the road before it got THERE...). Smut isn't mandatory for the genre but it does fit it like a glove. Or a condom, if you prefer.

They always find a way to dissapoint and subvert your expectations. I won't be surprised if some horny kid click on this garabge expecting rapey smut, yet MC literally turns women into a plastic...
Real Doll Evolution: She was a human, now she's a real doll, and she's going to evolve!

Also I don't see the point of a romance / harem system, but I suposse something with charisma makes sense. I don't know, I'm not going to write or read any so why I am here? Oh yeah, I wanted to make that joke above. Harem system seems like a good excuse to write smut, and everyone wants to write smut in a new way because even badly written smut gets attention. For myself, even if I did write harem-system, I would be exploring the darker side of this too deeply and would offend everyone. So no go zone.

But I'm far too wholesome to ever write smut anyway.

Just give me some time ? I need to rewrite a huge chunk of the plot so it could make sense at least for a bit.

I was originally going to release mine at July, but man how far the plan got deviated ? Also I still need myself a new laptop since I just can't use an office laptop for writing.

Though when it comes to themes, it was based on the Victorian/Industrial Revolution Europe style aka the 1800s so expect huge politics and the likes as well as potential imperial harem.
