I tried writing a pseudo-Isekai harem litrpg once, but then I got hit by my usual worldbuilding disease, the setting turned from Isekai into a digimon-esque layered world encroachment scenario with slight time travel elements (a reset button in an enclosed space), and now it is part of my multi-dimensional cinematic headcanon overlore where chaos and order fight proxy wars for total control of a multi-layered alternate history earth. I need help! The worldbuilding! It's controlling me!!! Must... not...must...build... lore...
But to answer the "low-effort rapeface McMurderhobo MC system harem stories" slowly taking over? Remember when Sword Art turned everything MMO-but-real before Isekai became the "Open World" of writing? That (d)evolved into litrpg stories because authors needed an easy way to push some bullshit into their story, and "a deity did it" seemed to have been too believable, so they forced gaming elements into it, because Dragon Quest. Now they of course have to turn the whole story harem since that's the king of genres (aka. the lowest-hanging fruit), and turn the smuttiness up, because sex sells, right? Then, add in the constant need for instant gratification that the younger generations seem to propagate because social media made them have less attention than a goldfish, and the glorious idea of "Instant hypnosis eyes rape level system" (or some other bullshit) is born.
Also, if anyone ever finds a cute, wholesome, and fluffy harem story that isn't smut, system, or pushover MC, please do post. There's a market for it!
Now in times of "Romantasy" and "Dark Fantasy" """novels""" (smut, but legal for minors to buy, IMO) taking over the market, we need to preserve the innocence of minds and people!
