Sooo... watching a show where one of the magical girls said the toy is sus. It surprised me to hear the popularized contraction. Perhaps the translators of the dub are taking liberties (which I don't mind cause it was kinda funny), but I didn't think that such a 'this-half-of-the-decade' phrase would be used.

And I've been thinking about how I find it difficult to remember some of the popular slang of my first 14 years of life that have gotten phased out, and which time they can be ascribed too. It's makes it frustrating trying to write a character who uses these phrases and words from the first 3/4ths of my life and another who uses the most immediate slang.

Wouldn't it be fun to write down the phrases that we think will get labeled dated, for posterity's sake? Might even be useful as a reference for writing when this decade or couple passes.

These are mine.
Sus
Just chilling/chillin'
Not doing too hot
I'm fried
You're cooked

I use them and see them used on a daily basis, so it's hard to imagine them not being used, and I may be totally wrong that they'll endure for far longer, but you gotta take a risk.

Note that some slang is cyclical - things like "I dig it" have been in and out of fashion since Shakespeare's time. Sometimes the meanings change, sometimes they don't.
But some other ones are timeless - "Cool" for example - I mean, Cool is a Rule, but sometimes Bad is bad...

I am just glad to see 'dank' hit the bricks.
Dank means dark, wet, cold, and nasty. Like a Florida swamp in the winter, or a dripping basement.
But for a short time it seemed to be an alternative to both 'cool' and 'awesome'. Fortunately, by the time I noticed it, it's popularity was almost played out. But every once in a while... well... to me a dank meme is one that makes you feel sick to the stomach and utterly fails on every level. The definition of lack of awesome.

a 'dank ho' is like banging a corpse.

The use of the word dap;
"It's giving blank energy";
the use of the word ick;
"You're done" as a way of telling someone they're canceled;
the use of the word canceled;
the use of the word woke;
the use of the Greek alphabet when referring to types of men;
the term brat in any way that isn't about reprehensible 6 year olds;
any political insult like chud or sjw;
and dragons claiming they like their food well done.

I really want to read what y'all writing, but my overly sophisticated brain instantly censors whatever brainy rot or farts you're writing... Like seriously, dood...
