Sooo... watching a show where one of the magical girls said the toy is sus. It surprised me to hear the popularized contraction. Perhaps the translators of the dub are taking liberties (which I don't mind cause it was kinda funny), but I didn't think that such a 'this-half-of-the-decade' phrase would be used.
And I've been thinking about how I find it difficult to remember some of the popular slang of my first 14 years of life that have gotten phased out, and which time they can be ascribed too. It's makes it frustrating trying to write a character who uses these phrases and words from the first 3/4ths of my life and another who uses the most immediate slang.
Wouldn't it be fun to write down the phrases that we think will get labeled dated, for posterity's sake? Might even be useful as a reference for writing when this decade or couple passes.
These are mine.
Sus
Just chilling/chillin'
Not doing too hot
I'm fried
You're cooked
I use them and see them used on a daily basis, so it's hard to imagine them not being used, and I may be totally wrong that they'll endure for far longer, but you gotta take a risk.
