Now then let us resume the experiment.

Barely feeling my fingers, the temple grew larger. Under the night sky two figures ran. Through dead grass, dirt, and gravel my feet passed. There I felt watched.
In my eyes I saw it. It was crawling on the rough of the run down building. Stomach acid filled my throat, it tasted of cheesecake and crab. Tourmaline crystals fell from its mouth. The sound of mine and John’s running disappeared.
We were running to somewhere? Where exactly was this? It was a rundown rest stop with a weird pinstriped mascot painted on its door. My foot touched a wooden plank and reality shifted. I was at a temple. On its door it read:
“I follow you when you eat, sleep, and cry. I grow and shrink as you move. I am §§§§ §§§§§§. Envy me for my life of decadent slothfulness. Awaken me from my rest, and awaken yourself to our brilliant §§§§§§§§§, and our restless reality. I am the messenger of Gabd’oth, you who read this will…”
The rest of the text was scratched out. The wood where it was written looked like a cat had used it as a scratching post.
“Marren, can you remember where this place is?” John asked.
“We are at some temple behind a cornfield, no..?” I asked.
“I told you on the way, but it seems you have forgotten. We are here at the ritual site. The place where Aiden found Gabd’oth, and protected us from outsider realities.” John said. “Do you remember the things that you saw? Those are the outsiders. Entities that can warp your reality away from this mortal realm. Typically the outsiders and us mortals hold a mutualistic relationship. They feed off our ‘dreams’ and we remain in the same reality.” John gave his explanation as we moved into the pristine temple. I had no idea what he was talking about. John seemed to notice that and spoke once more.
“That journal, that memento of yours, check it. You need to know what it says before this ritual begins.”
I mechanically moved my limbs and body and opened Aiden’s journal. It read:
“Do no trust the mad cow. It's a trap” I read it aloud to John. He sighed.
“I can’t tell you what it means exactly, but keep the words in mind while going through your ritual. It might be a warning for you.” He said.
“What is this ritual?” I asked. I was beginning to feel like reality made sense.
“In short it is a temporary measure while your mind’s shell hardens. It is hard to explain for a newbie like you. Perhaps you could imagine it like this… It will make you seem like a psycho to outsiders. A psycho who will blow up yourself and any outsider who approaches you with 5 tons of dynamite. We will be attracting the gaze of Gabd’oth to you. This will last 4hrs or until your mental shell hardens. Do try and remember that warning during the warning during your ritual.”
As John spoke, I felt myself compelled to touch the monolith in the center of the temple. As my fingers touched it I felt an overbearing pressure as the familiar feeling of reality warping around me began.
