The “school beauty/goddess” trope is kind of dumb

I’ve seen this trope multiple times throughout the various novels, mangas, and anime I’ve watched and find it pretty dumb. Before I got into high school I thought it was just exaggerated, but now I just think it’s bullshit. Are there pretty girls in my school? Yes. Is there an indisputable #1 beauty every guy (excluding those in a relationship and those who aren’t into girls) in school wants to date and or f’’k? No. I know the tropes are exaggerations and it’s likely different in other places but it still feels painfully unrealistic seeing so many dudes ass kissing and meat riding for girls. What do you guys think?

Is it possible, sure. Is it possible for just one person to be so ridiculously hot, they're established as the school goddesses, very unlikely.

Sure some of my friends might have modeling careers, of varying success, and some are Tik Tok "famous" for being attractive, but none of them were a sort of goddess that every dude wanted to date. But none of them have reached a point where normal guys worship them. Sure a lot of guys agree that they're gorgeous, but they don't simp. I do not know about how small groups of recluses see these girls though. Tried hanging out with people like that and someone suggested that I be a femboy.

I should add that the vast majority of simping I've witnessed happens online, mainly on social media.

You're not wrong. The Trope exists purely so the Protag/Reader can brag about bagging the literal, uncontested 'best girl'. Or to give the Beauty a reason to be so down-to-earth despite a trait that should make her extremely vain. 'Isolated by everyone for being perfect', that tired old trope goes hand in hand with this one, and tends to give the Beauty a reason to seek out the Protagonist's company. Oh, and the inevitable conflict with simps shouting, "UNWORTHY!" means extra drama for drama.

I think the worst part is how a lot of these girls and their guy counterparts are often perfectly normal people that you can talk to. Almost none of the super attractive people I knew were vain about their appearance and they were actually all really fun to talk to and hang out with. I think I remember talking to them about seasonal anime, engineering super athletes, and other shit like that. Still do sometimes, even though we don't go to school with each other anymore.

Then again, this is my personal experience. Not a very big sample size and despite the fact I'm a suspected psychopath, I at least have enough social skills to talk to people without being reported to the cops.

I taught in a high school, and I confirm this isn't true.

I mean we got beauties there, but nothing of the 'goddess' sort. If anything, they did become that, but only after they graduated (college students). ?

Tis merely for wish-fulfillment of the author.

While I think the trope is dumb, I do wonder if it is hard to judge based on difference of culture. To put it in perspective, I never even knew who our student council president was. Sure there was some papers come voting time, but that was the only time I've even seen a mention of their existence. I wouldn't even know who got the highest grades in the school. The only thing remotely I knew was at graduation, at that is about it.

Maybe in places like Japan, something like that may exist. Not because people in question are so beautiful/handsome. But because they are a competitive society with much more power given to students. So someone who is top of the school and has decent looks maybe is desirable. In similar way of the captain of the school sports team is popular, even in places like US.

So someone lived in Japan would probably be a better indicator if something like that actually exists there or not, even if it is blown out of proportions.

Well, I don’t really like that trope myself, but I kind of understand why it exists.

I think it’s just there for the sake of mc’s progression and achievement—put it simply, the character is nothing but achievement or prize the mc can get once he reaches certain level or overcome chalenges.

As for the whole trope itself, I‘d say yes, it’s possible in the real world—or at least in my old school, anyway.

Of course, it’s not as extreme as in the trope, but there‘s still something like that in my old school.

Like I said, it’s not to the extreme as in the trope, so there’s no worshiping her as if she’s a goddess, but there’s still this idolization going on—like when some juniors walk past her or him, they would get all flustered, increase their walking speed, or just don’t know what to do. Some of the brave one might even ask for a photo. If it’s a group of girl, then they’d all go, “Kyaa!” and such.

I know this first hand since I was a singer in high school and was one of the city’s idols—from participating in some competition. And also—this might sound narcissistic, no actually, it really does lol—I‘m quite confident in my look, so with both my fame and look, I got some of those, “kyaa!” myself—not the disgusted one, mind you~ lol.

So with that said, I have to say yes, there’s something like that in real life. Not as extreme—it’s pretty subtle, actually, aside from some rare occasions—but this trope actually exists in real life.

True. Though in my school, they were not simply popular because of their attractiveness but because of their charisma; basically, they were cool to talk to. Sure, they were smarter and have more "influence" than me, but we did have a blast talking about random "down-to-earth" shits.

The only time that comes close to "guys simping over the goddess" in my experience was during elementary where almost 60% of my classmates (obviously male) had a crush on her and it was super annoying (and disgusting for reasons I will not say) whenever I had to watch them kind of fight for her attention. However in high school, though we still think she's pretty and all that, we treated her more... "human."

While I had never seen a thing like that in my school, I had seen its opposite "Most Hated Person of the entire year school cohort".

I mean, I had been a victim of school bullying, I had seen bullying firsthand with popcorn in my hands and I may or may not had accidentally caused a bullying incident before, so I am rather sensitive on that notion and seeing how a person can garner hatred from most of the students all because of how he offended one of the popular kids was iffy. Mind you, I got onto the receiving end at one time when someone "informed" me that the rich kid in my class was planning to get the entire class to leave me out of things... which was rather hilarious because I was already alone and couldn't care.

As for the whole "loved by all" trope... nah, didn't happened. The student council in my schools were non-existent or no one cared about whatever they were planning. There were beautiful people but no shrines were erect and most importantly, no super beautiful swan in the cesspool that is my school.

There were a bunch of talks about fucking girls in the toilet, but most of them were just lame boasts and the worst I ever seen was a knife fight in the school that ended with someone's forehead bleeding like Niagra Falls.

I mean, like everyone says, it's wish fulfillment, so I'm not gonna parrot everyone's post. In fact, I'm gonna double-down.

It's that one chick everyone wants to bang in school but she's only openly/secretly devoted to sucking your girth. It's the ultimate ego boost. Of course, everyone has different ways of getting off, but the idea of monopolizing an exclusive hot product with flaming demand is just insatiable to many. It's like owning a limited series Ferrari model, or having a signed pair of Yeezys. It's not that she's the "campus queen" that makes the troupe enticing. It's the throne in which you sit on where everyone else can only dream of even catching a glimpse of. Hell, she doesn't even need to be "campus queen". Just nabbing the most popular chick in class can warrant the same effect.

I feel like these posts claiming such troupes to be unrealistic are no-brainers akin to CN protagonists and slavery harem. It's pointing towards something GLARINGLY obvious. Of course these troupes don't exist in real life. It's like the blue sky; a fact so general it needs no mentioning.

Actually, thinking about it now, it's a little indicative of a prevailing issue. There's been a collection of such posts popping up, talking about loli characters and harem protagonists or shounen troupes or what not and prefacing it by saying they're unrealistic. Yeah, it's unrealistic, but the way these posts are phrased makes it sounds like it's intended as a wake-up call or a PSA, as if they're are under the impression that OTHER PEOPLE think such and such troupes exist in real life, (may or may not include OP). No shit, the sect killing young master is a genocidal psychopath, he just mowed down a school full of teens for slighting him wrong. Anyone with a frontal lobe knows that. The fact that someone felt the need to address its unrealistic nature felt as if they missed the point. McDonald's is unhealthy as fuck, but that's what people are here for. Sure, you can "criticize" them for what they do but it seems pointless to do so when the salad bar is just down the street, or that you could just cook from home instead.

Absurdity and exaggerations are what these troupes are made for. It's unrealistic, ego stroking, and definitely NOT fine dining experiences. It's bullshit, ye, but with a purpose. It's like a butter knife. It isn't the best knife to slice your favourite cuts of meat, nor is it useful in a house invasion situation, but holy SHIT can it spread butter like a champ.

At the school I attended there was one girl that was always listed as a girl people liked/would want to date. She was fairly pretty I guess, but it was her personality that really shone. Outgoing and always looking out for others no matter how insignificant they were. Didn’t matter how others treated or viewed them, that girl treated them equally and always befriended them. For those people, she probably really was idolized in their minds as some sort of goddess.

Personally, I didn’t get it though. She would have been the last person I would have wanted to date. She was too much of a sunflower. Too blindingly bright and it looked like it’d be exhausting to be with her.

Saying that something is realistic (or not) is the the easiest way to try to establish a sentiment as objective.

It's what separates a rant about authors not catering to your preferences from a highly intelligent and critical take on the unreflecting mass literature.

It's also not much of a separator for "highly intelligent" or "critical take" on literature by itself. Literally everyone here hides behind that when complaining about a trope they don't like on this forum. And they are not what most would call "high intelligent".

ye, that's one thing i dislike about most forum posts here. they'll let out a deluge about how they don't like BL or gender bender or isekai harem ecchi smut and when you call them out for it they defend themselves as a "critic". no, you dumbfuck. you walked into that sushi store knowing you don't like sushi. that isn't a "critique", that's your poor attempt at justifying your subpar time management skills.
