Scrapped Ideas, We All Have Them. How Cringe Are They?

The only idea I've ever actually scrapped was essentially an answer to Twilight (Seriously, screw the sparkly vampires. They should burn in sunlight and shouldn't behave like angsty emo teens despite having been alive for 300+ years).

Basically, it was a novel about a guy who accidentally stumbled upon proof that werewolves existed. So two vampires visited him and forced him to be one. He later wakes up in a mansion and ends up burning it to the ground because he realizes the wolves are the evil side (they kidnapped the vampire leader's daughter in an attempt to force submission). He then goes to find the vampire town and joins up with them. The leader, somehow surviving, finds them and recruits other werewolves (who aren't all evil, but have been lied to to believe the vampires kidnapped the wolves) to assault the town. The love interest is pregnant by this point, so when she gets kidnapped by werebears, her brother steps in and attempts to rescue her (but gets killed. This is what ruined it for me. My first real death in my stories, and he was my favorite character. but it was so flawlessly written that rewriting it would've ruined the impact. it was truly a perfect arc for the man).

Anyhow, I've recycled bits and pieces into other stories. Dialogue, characters, personalities, etc. Agdron from my story Lay the Dragon was actually based on the wolf antagonist from this story. Aise from DragonBound was a loose rip of the brother that died - sort of a spiritual descendant. just a couple of examples.

I don't think I've got any that make me cringe. Closest would be the story where I wrote about a girl with the ability to know if someone was telling the truth. Cringey part was that I wrote her working in a call center. Just like I did at the time. ?

I scrap all the ideas that are too self-indulgent in certain fantasies.

That still leaves me with a ton of ideas, and I can sometimes salvage something out of the scrapped ones that is still worth working into a story.

Thank you. :) But I feel that sometimes being too self-indulgent often affects the quality of a story, so I am self-regulating there. Also, I have more ideas than I will ever get written as-is, filters are useful. :D

What some of us have had plots for various reasons in our head for as long as we have been reading. Which for some of us has been longer than even that 40+ years.
I had a plot of 8 year old me I wrote when I was 8. Even I bought a notebook to write stories in with my bottle money (Money I got for collecting returnable bottles; I realized what it looks like on the first pass; but that was what I called/thought of that money at the time and still do).
Never wrote much in the notebook, but man I dreamt so many ideas for plots to put in it while it was in my hand. Lost it after awhile in those woods somewhere.

Meh it was the 70's, Parents did not want us in the house, unless it was getting dark, time to eat, or they had chores that needed to be done.
