What is some music that you have listened to or has otherwise inspired you when writing?
In my case, one of my stories is named after a song, that being Mad World by Tears For Fears. Their whole first album, The Hurting, was listened to in its entirety several times when I was writing parts of it, which is fitting since Mad World gets into themes surrounding abandonment, loss of family members, child abuse, sexual assault, and psychological trauma. Another MW-specific album I listened to was also Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park, which, again, is fitting given the themes listed above. Besides these regular albums, the soundtracks of Berserk (including the 97 anime, the movie trilogy, and theawful in most ways besides the music 2016-2017 anime) and Madoka Magica were also listened to a lot, largely due to these two series being the two main sources of inspiration behind the story.
For The Hauntings That Follow Us, I usually wrote that story in silence, although sometimes I would write with an episode of Ghost Hunters or Ghost Adventures going in the background.
For music specific only to The Burning Desire To Save, it's usually a lot of 2000s rock songs, stuff you'd probably find if you typed in "Firefighter tribute" or something along those lines on YouTube. Occasionally, I'd pull up actual radio traffic from fires. Special note for C'Mon C'Mon by the Von Bondies, which was the theme of the FX series Rescue Me, one of several fictional inspirations for the story.
As for generalized music for any of the three stories I wrote here or when writing fanfic elsewhere, it can heavily vary. Much of both MW and TBDTS were written while listening to Susumu Hirasawa, particularly his albums Aurora and Sim City, usually when I was writing a scene not involving an emergency being responded to and instead about life in the seaside village of Harukawa. As a huge fan of Queen, Genesis (and the solo work of both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins), and Led Zeppelin, their songs also crept in at various points. Special note for Supper's Ready, Firth of Fifth, Taking It All Too Hard, and Domino, all by Genesis, all of which were being listened to while I wrote some very important plot points in all of the stories.
