Whelp, a CN just naruto shippuden-ed me, that is to say, tell me that the pauper MC I've been following from start turns out to be the lost prince of the king of the planet.

At least the work didn't do the "following the totally-not-gay-completely-platonic same sex childhood friend and constantly showing his totally-not-gay sexy side while neglecting the supposed main character", talk-no-jutsu or have a sexual predator as an antagonist, yet.

I hate the whole "let's connect with our loser readers by having an underdog MC but near mid or end, say that MC is actually some OP IMBA Pls Nerf supercock destined for greatness~"

If said MC has some special ass background, drop the hint from very start. To at least warn me or lessen the blows.

As a reader, does this irk you? It does for me as the big three is totally onto this crap with the likes of Ichigo "I have way too many fathers" Kurosaki and Monkey D "Joy Boy not Boy Toy" Luffy. I dislike the whole "it is all but destiny" crap.

As an author, do you do such shit? If so, why and have you cut off your fingers for such heinous act yet?

I think it's overused, but it's not always a bad thing. The reason we all get so upset about it is we see it too often, but the author is writing it for themself, not for the reader. Yes, the readability is a factor, obviously, but in the end, we still write what we want at the end of the day.

I personally wouldn't write something like that unless it could be interpreted in different ways (undertale is a great example of a prophecy with dual meaning). But in the end, if your main character isn't special in some way, it's hard to write something that can quickly grip someone unless you're just an incredible writer, which is a level I doubt many of us are at yet. So it's not exactly surprising to see people doing stuff like that, especially when a lot of them were probably inspired by such stories as One Piece and Naruto, seeing as a lot of people grew up on them.

Just another era thing.

Do I have stories with that setting? Yes. They are ancient stories I won't give up because of the sentimental attachment I have with them, being my first story ideas.

Would I write stories like this now? Absolutely not. I make them as gay as a mosquito coil.

My MC is an orphan and her biological parents literally never come up because they're not relevant to the story, except for one brief vision in book 4 that will explain some of her traits to the reader (in an "oh that's why she's Like That" way). Then the caster who sees it promptly wipes his own memory due to other things they see in the vision, so not one soul in-universe ends up knowing her origins.

So no. I dislike that trope as much as you do.

My FMC is a tragic-realistic character with a fantasy twist. Since the synopsis and prologue, I've explicitly explained her setting as a former princess who abandoned her name, honor, and compassion to become the final judge for (sinful) humanity. She executed the tyrants who were the source of the world's evil... she bled, and was broken.

But even after winning the final war, she wasn't applauded, but instead was "forgotten by the world" and bore the world's sins. Finally, she just wanted to live in peace at the end of her journey with her little daughter. And that peace... is fragile, the world still threatens her life.

I dislike bullshit... talk gets everything done, power of nakama, or empty idealism. I want a realistic yet inspiring fantasy story that serves as a dark allegory for the harsh realities of the real world that we often turn a blind eye to.

I mean... Naruto hinted at his heritage constantly. His always sitting on the Fourth's monument, Hiruzen's interest, the fact he looked so much like the statue... first time I watched the anime, I figured it out in OG.

I'll be frank.

I don't really recall much about Naruto because I was so pained by Rock Lee's mistreatment.

If there is really hints being dropped other than the "super powerful beast sealed within", all I can say is "oops I missed it".

Don't feel bad, everyone missed Kaguya hints the entire time, and when Kishimoto stated she was planned from the start, fans reacted like he didn't know what he was talking about. Like bruh, Shippuden stared at the moon in far too many scenes to not be a hint.

The hint was too vague and not worthy of foreshadowing. Seeing the moon a lot = there's a mystical creature there?! That's too vague. Seeing the moon can have many metaphors.

Honestly, Kaguya is like an Alien to me in the true sense. She suddenly appears as a character very foreign to the narrative world.

In my opinion, Madara is more worthy of being the final boss, foreshadowing of his presence was already hinted at in the Valley of the End during the Naruto and Sasuke battle arc before Shippuden. And just his statue alone has an intimidating aura. Naruto would be more memorable if Madara was the final boss.

Kaguya, is based on Kaguya-hime in Japanese mythology, she had some relationship with the Goddess Amerterasu. Kurama is a Kitsune, who is a part of Kaguya's menagerie
