    Writing Structure: Back-and-forth conversations

So, this is a curiosity that recently surfaced due to a peculiar comment on RR: how do you like your conversations written? The comment was something regarding incoherent/difficult conversation structure, which brought the distinction between webnovels and physical books to mind. But before I...

Turn your web-fiction title into a long-ass light novel title!

Sweats in one word title Uh..."Dragonlord: How I killed our God and woke up as a midget one thousand years later." Thank you, this thread rekindled my love for one word titles. :blob_evil:

I'm curious, what writing software do you (yes I mean you specially) use?

Das a lotta docs... +1 for MS Word! And the default Notes app on my phone, where I write outlines.

    Uploaded, but not uploaded?

I noticed this thanks to the comments on the newest chapter. I'm not exactly sure what happened here, but a particular chapter seemed to have been skipped in the scheduled uploads? It's displaying as uploaded, but I think it didn't actually stay uploaded. Even though it says it's there in my...

    How to separate the mc?

Unless the story is supposed to be about illegal levels of imprisonment by untouchable beings, I personally don't think characters should be able to cover "every base." If there's nothing in the setting that can threaten these side characters in the slightest, then it might be time to introduce...

    How to separate the mc?

If you can't separate the MC from his allies, you could always try separating his allies from the MC, and use that window to introduce a separation event. If they're strong, surely they have some kind of responsibility that would make them look away for a second.

Tick Tick Tick, the timer counts down. When is stops … will happen.

This just reminded me of this: Patient: Doctor. how much time do I have to live? Doctor: 10... Patient: 10 days? Doctor: 9...8..7...

How to deal with creative block?

Wasn't this sect just a myth? I thought spirit grass went extinct with the industrial revolution. Jokes aside, if you have an event that's in plan much further down, try to note the differences between said event and where the story currently is. If you can see the differences concisely, you...

    Welcome thread for the newbies!

Didn't realize this was a thing until now. Hello everyone! I go by Praybird, Pray, Pb, whatever you'd like. Despite having heavy writing phases throughout my life, I never really sat down to write a full story. I'd always write small bits of lore or setting, maybe a small scene then and there...

    Thoughts on a Divided Nation

Nothing to be sorry about, I appreciate the honesty! I find those two stereotypes pretty prevalent, even throughout South Korea itself. Interesting take. I did plan to use it as a central worldbuilding tool; I find the current state of North and South Korea very interesting in that a small...

    Thoughts on a Divided Nation

So, for starters...I'm South Korean. I'm from a country that has been a divided nation for longer than I was alive. Naturally, I grew up learning the history and I know what being a divived nation actually entails to an extent. I've recently been thinking how using a setting like this in urban...

What do I need to know to write a good cultivation novel with Taoist elements?

Totally possible still. If you define healthy as, say, having a purer qi or just more of it, and this character knows a way to imbue the medicine they make with qi, then I can see that happening. In fact, there was a doctor character from another story who was exactly like this - he continued to...

What do I need to know to write a good cultivation novel with Taoist elements?

Cultivation through foods is totally normal. Unless, the only cultivation method in the entire setting is eating, in which case you'd have to play the cards very carefully. Honestly, unless you're going into the martial arts side, there's no staple frame for cultivation or settings.

How long you became a well-known author since you first published in SH?

2 days, but I uploaded the first 9~ish entries on the first day to catch up with RoyalRoad uploads. Also, it might not help as much as LitRPG or Isekai, but I think Reincarnation tag definitely did help.

    What did you learn today?

I learned that 19.5 gets listed AFTER 20 on Scribble Hub. I thought it would go between 19 and 20, nope. :blob_teary: Edit: ...And then remembered we can manually order things and fixed it manually.

Turning stories upside-down by changing the perspective

I dropped my special journal. When I went to go get it back, some crazy-ass highschooler had written all over it. Even the authorities said it was his now, so I just kept stalking him to see what he did with the book. I tried to convince him this one time to rent it from me at a discount, didn't...

    Outlines

I think it also depends on what you consider as an outline. I have an archive of settings, characters, and ideas that have nothing to do with the current story; I've no clue if I'll ever use them, and I definitely won't use all of them, but they're still there. It's like having a mountain of...
