@OtherSlater don't worry, I was just replying to a post someone praised which was 'artists deserve AI because they're picky about the commissions they take' because an artist didn't want to illustrate a right-wing children's book. *Someone* took issue with me saying that this is why rightwingers...

    What Weird Thing Inspires You?

Being a nerd in my 30s may or may not have directly influenced my main character. For the parts with my world-hopping young witch in an infinite library, it's probably my inability to sit down with just one thing, and also Elaina's Journey was a big inspiration. Sometimes I'll hear random...

    PAY ARTISTS !!

Some artists do accept AI-generated references, though personally I find that existing resources are often more than enough. Stock photo sites are full of poses and if I'm going anime style, then I can freely combine tags on gelbooru until I find something similar enough to my vision.

Well, the argument in said thread was "you have to take orders even if you disagree with what the work represents or you deserve to be replaced by AI", without fully understanding that an artist can't exactly detach themselves from such a work.

Have you ever thought, “What if my story never gets popular?”

No. I write for myself, partially as a device to commission cool art. And even so, my shit bangs.

The forums have a bit of a nazi bar problem. The 'no politics' rule doesn't dissuade threads where people go into how 'woke' the video game industry is now because the games have *gasp* women or 'brown people' (actual quote) in them, but I've seen another thread about including real-life people...

    PAY ARTISTS !!

I read the post and it boiled down to "you brought AI onto yourselves because you don't want to work for right-wingers", which is honestly a commendable stance on the artist's part. AI is the favorite tool of fascists for a reason, no decent artist wants to work with them. Editing because there...

    What makes your fiction unique?

Adult magical girls are so rare, they are mostly side characters or appear in parody one-shots, and even then they are like 24 at most instead of 30.

    PAY ARTISTS !!

AI covers are whatever, it's a self-fueling problem that's too deep by now to get solved. writer wants people to click > people click on a shiny cover > can't afford shiny cover > turn to the slop machine > it works so no one is incentivized to do it differently What really makes my eyebrows...

    Magical Girl Overtime

What's the most difficult thing about writing story content?

I found that I am actually struggling most with writing slice of life scenes. Having characters do mundane activities and talk about inconsequential things while keeping it engaging is a bigger challenge than introducing stakes and following a plot, lol.

    Labeling chapters with sex

I do because my story is adult but not smut focused, so there's like... 4-6 occurences in 100 chapters and they're mostly skippable.

Do you include images or nah?

I do frequently, as I've been inspired by the Light Novel format, though I do commission an artist for that instead of relying on AI. And maps have been a staple of fantasy novels, at least the last time I bothered opening a physical one they always had one you could fold out, so I don't think...

Authors, Do you plan your stories?

I have specific key points that I want to reach, but the path there is always in motion with better ideas that I'm getting on the way there. Those key points are also mostly important because I sometimes need to know what to commission off my artist before I reach those scenes lol.

I wish there was an effective way.

The most automoderation could do there would be to ban the mention of discord or instagram accounts in chapter comments. This won't get rid of the DMs, however, and there it could be counterproductive if people who aren't scammers want to exchange contact info. 'I'm a comic artist' and other...

Do you read other WNs on this site in the genre you write?

Unironically I'm too busy writing to do that

What's your ultimate 'dream' for your story?

At this point it's mostly about leaving something behind. To that end I'd like it to be printed and available as a physical book one day, even if my goal isn't really to monetize off it.

I stopped using ChatGPT and the likes for things such as writing ideas and whatnot

Comedy gold for the evening, thank you. And why so against the AI slop convention? Shouldn't they out-compete the artists which you put into quotation marks? What's the problem, buddy?

Maybe promptcels should make an AI slop convention instead of crying about conventions intended for artists not letting the slop in?
