    Respectful or...

No idea. I decided to circumvent the problem by working from home and being a hermit. Can't insult or harass anyone if you never deal with them.

    Respectful or...

At Netflix in 2018, during an anti-harassment seminar, men were told to avoid looking at women for more than 5 seconds. So only looking at a womans face no matter what she's wearing, seems like a good plan.

    What If: Bartering?

Quite a few groups did this. Among the Native tribes on the North American West Coast they would trade using a certain type of seashell. They'd carry them in loops like necklaces and use them as a general bartering good, measuring out a certain amount for something they wanted. This was also...

    What If: Bartering?

It would be messy. Bartering does happen between countries, one of the better known agreements was between Nazi Germany and the USSR in the 1930's. The USSR traded natural resources for manufactured goods, technology and machinery, that was the equivalent of 650 million Riechmarks each...

    Fantasy Tribes

I want to see actual research put into the tribes. Not just generic bedouins, gypsies, mongols and high sea raiders. What about nomadic herders, who follow large herds of cattle and goats on foot. If they're on a continent without horses, or where horses were only recently introduced, have...

What do you use to write, and why?

Desktop. I work from home and don't go out much, so I don't really need anything else. When I did work outside a lot in the past I'd write on my tablet. I couldn't imagine writing on my phone. My fingers are big, so I hate even sending text messages on my phone.

Never. It's a dangerous road potentially leading to self-doubt and perfectionism. So whenever I find myself doing it, I push it down hard. I try to learn from other authors, never compare myself to them.

    Final girl

I've asked my daughter similar questions in the past. She always says she'll be the extra in the back, because they almost always survive. And she hates being the centre of attention, so she'll wander away when the group gets together, while avoiding the parties. For myself, I'll disappear and...

Introverts vs extroverts: Who make the best protagonists?

Depends on what the story calls for. Both work well in different situations.

    Writing outside your comfort zone

Yes, if I don't push myself, I won't improve. But I have to admit I have a very wide comfort zone, so getting out of it takes a bit of work.

The portrayal of demons in fantasy stories

However they best fit the story. Demons should not be stuck in a box, make them fit the story you want to write. Demons appear in two of my stories. In one of them they're very similar to gods, needing prayers for power, so they get followers in much the same way by setting up churches and...

The unpopular types of undead that could be used in fantasy novels

Banshees Flesh golems Undead animated plants Shadow Person Rusalka: Slavic water ghost of drowned young women. Would lure people to their death, by singing and calling them to the edge of the river. Depending on the folklor they either always had their feet and hem of their skirt wet, or...

Glad you got some sleep. As you get older, sleeping propped up like that is also good for heartburn.

    Waiting urgently for answers online!

Can you sleep sitting up? I've found that taking a nap in my computer chair tilted back a little is easier on my head when I've got a migraine. If you can handle it maybe try some light exercise, marching on the spot, standing up on your tiptoes for a second then back down and repeat for a...

    No SMUT

My stories Doom Valley Prep School and Necromancer Unmanned are doing OK, and they don't have smut or Isekai. Just keep plugging away, and find your audience.

    Can you gain money here?

Yes you can, but don't expect to make it quickly. I'm on 3 writing sites, and they each link to Patreon. Most of my 14 patrons (I only joined Patreon about 3 months) have come from the one site I've been on for years. A few came from the second writing site, and 1 or 2 came from here. Almost...

Your personal views on the portrayal of trolls(the fantasy creatures) in fantasy novels

I'll take them in many different ways. Weird Scandinavian folklore people. Cool. Fairytale like weirdness. Works. Hulking, stupid monsters. I like. Big brutish humanoids. I can go with it. Just as long as they're not tiny annoying singers that should all be squashed.

    Which title is better?

You could go with Tempest, which means storm. Or Zephyr, a gentle breeze or the west wind in old English

what is your writing "ritual" that inspires you

Sit down and write. I usually find if I start writing, I keep writing. Starting to write can be difficult, but that's why I've worked hard to get a routine going.
