Don't know about pride, but I do agree with it relating to self-esteem when it comes to me writing other stories. I am happy that my prototype story got traction then again you could just that it was down to a lucky combination of genres and tags associated with the story giving it more success.

I personally prefer dialogue most of the time because seeing it through the characters perspective is sometimes better than getting an info dump on what everything looks like. Then again there's also advantages to descriptive writing styles like in J.R.R Tolkien's works set in Middle Earth.
