    Thank you all for your thoughtful responses! Continuing to write may sound simple, but perhaps it really is the most direct path. I also realize now how important it is to feel attached to my own work— It’s like sending a part of myself, almost like sending my own child out into the world.

    Translating emotions is harder than grammar…

    Just a random thought: I’m translating my Japanese novel into English, and honestly… conveying the feeling behind a simple line is way harder than the grammar part. Sometimes I spend 10 minutes just wondering if a character should say “…you know?” or “…never mind.” Anyone else struggle with this?
