Trending & Other Front Page Lists

I'm on your side of this Ace. Not to be an ass, but catering to a once-a-week crowd is extremely problematic. First, it's way too narrow, and second, like Ace said, it really is a pretty slippery slope. I think it'll do very little aside from just creating a second group of 8 that stay at the...

    Resolved Deleted then reposted release

Ah, thanks. I'm glad to know what the reason was, and it's a pretty smart one :blobrofl: What I called the chapter label, I meant the chapter title. The name that the chapter appears under. I mentioned it because thought it was connected to what I thought was a bug. Thanks again :blob_evil_two:

    Resolved Review ordering

Ah I see. Yea, it's like that. So those new reviews disregard like order then huh? Even within itself? Kinda weird, but ok. At least I understand what's going on. I do think that the new ones should respect like order when you sort by like within itself though.

Trending & Other Front Page Lists

To be honest, I agree with a lot of what you said. First of all, gaming the system is just normal. Even I do it. There's a reason why I post my chapters the way I do (though it does take into consideration my IRL limitations). But even then, I think excessive abuse should be culled a bit, though...

    Resolved Deleted then reposted release

I once deleted a post after realizing that I forgot something in the post, so rather than risk people read it while I was editing the post, I deleted it immediately, then posted it again once I had fixed the mistake. The chapter label was the same as before, and maybe because of it, it showed up...

    Resolved Review ordering

Written reviews are default ordered to most liked at top, right? But in several series I had a look at, I noticed that no matter what you do, the ordering is always by date (and always newest to oldest). Selecting the different ordering buttons don't change a thing.

How does the trending ranking function work? is it being abused?

Wow, I spent a bit of time reading that thread, but I was referenced quite a lot. It's a bit embarrassing that people look so highly at my work, but it also makes me happy. I don't know. This weird feeling of wanting to hide in a hole while at the same time jump for joy ( ゚ Д゚)

    New front page short list

I don't think basing it on chapters is ideal. It would only promote rapidly releasing short chapters as the current system already does. Instead, I prefer word count. I personally like waiting until the word count is in the 50k range before giving a series a read, as it allows enough content to...

    Reducing star abuse

I don't know if this has already been implemented, but I just thought while reading another thread, what if there was a system in place that automatically removed star ratings from inactive accounts? There's definitely a fear that one-off accounts being used to abuse authors, and while I don't...

    New front page short list

I think only having the three listings on the front page is a bit lacking, especially for the sake of upcoming stars. Trending favours established series no matter how the sorting algorithm is set up, and I think it should be accepted as is (not the current algorithm, but accepting that already...

How does the trending ranking function work? is it being abused?

Hmm...I admit I hadn't done it too much, at least consciously. But now that I've realized that some of the people I'm talking here are authors rather than readers it's admittedly exciting. I hope a lot of these faces become more and more familiar as our stories evolve! That said, I'm not leaving...

    View count differentiation

I'd like a way to differentiate readership with people checking out the comments on chapters. As it is, I'm presuming that every visit to a chapter counts as an additional view? It would be nice to see unique views on my chapters as well. As it is, seeing something like 3k views on a chapter...

    Curving simple star ratings

So something that's been bugging me for a long time. One star rating marring my near perfect score! Kay, my story's score hadn't been perfect for quite a while, but suddenly seeing a single one or two star when all previous stars had been five was scary, and what made it worse was it dropped my...

    Division of series

A thread made me think of a feature that would be incredibly useful, yet I hadn't seen, yet many authors here use a workaround for already. That is, the division of a series into subsets. What I mean is that a story can be divided into volumes (or whatever you want to call it. It would be even...

    Tags in a Novel

You know what, I should use the forum for more than just dicking around in between writing chapters. I haven't even thought about suggesting things like that. Shame on me. Well, I do agree on tagging jarring content like that, though I do kinda wish that they could be put into a separate...

How does the trending ranking function work? is it being abused?

That quality is exactly the reason why I only do a biweekly release schedule. Originally it was the limit I thought I could reliably do in the long run (turned out I was right). But when I first released on SH, I made the mistake of dropping a 14 chapter batch over the course of 30 minutes, each...

    Tags in a Novel

I personally view tags as a combination advertisement and promise. Tags advertise by helping readers have an idea about what the story is about beyond what your description can do. They're a promise in that they literally promise that your story will feature this thing that you've listed. Both...

Information resources: Technical information useful in stories.

Knowledge is the #1 way to improve any story I'd say, so here's a bunch of things I've been using for years: Animalogic for micro documentaries about various animals: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwg6_F2hDHYrqbNSGjmar4w AsapSCIENCE for quick and sometimes weird science info...

Writing Prompt "Why is there a god of --?"

In an overfilled field of half broken ideas taken material form, sat the great god, Kludge, the patron god of barely adequate solutions. While few know of his name, many unknowingly worship him, thus his power and influence is amongst the greatest of the gods. Today, once again, the great god...
