    Question on Etiquette

I like what Lurking said about this. Rewriting is fine, and it's done a bunch here. Some have even rewritten large sections of their story (at the time at least) to fix things up. Editing, merging, and even deleting chapters. That said, if you plan on such a big overhaul, I do like the idea of...

Writing Do you write out sheets of your characters and general story line?

They're amazing for reminders. I also have a "remember to do this" list as well. That said, they're also a trap. Don't spend a ton of time on them, as no matter how much you plan out, things change as you go on. Mine only lists stats (because it's that sort of story), names, key information...

Generally, how long is a volume? Diff between volume vs book?

Two more things. First, books (including professionally published ones) vary greatly in terms of length. Harry Potter for example goes between 70k and 180k I believe, depending on the book. LoTR is roughly 140k each in comparison. Intended audience changes that a lot, though remember that...

    A 'Good' Story

While I'm not as extreme s Ace on the matter in regards to good/bad, I do rather prefer to concentrate on like/dislike. That said, aside from subjects and genre that I'm particularly interested in, I suppose internal consistency is extremely high on the list of things I like. Characters need to...

The Yuri Garden Writing Competition (2019) (Now voting)

1 month?! Wow, I was working on my frenetically only to give up when I realized that I was only halfway through it and already over 3k words and only a few hours from the deadline. Must've horribly misread the due date. Looks like I'll have the time to shape my entry up then :blobrofl:

Resolved Comment ordering (Maybe a feature instead?)

Nice, it's fixed. BTW, Gin0001 was the one to notice it on one of my chapters.

Resolved Comment ordering (Maybe a feature instead?)

I've noticed that comment ordering is pretty messed up when you view them from the chapter itself rather than as a response. I don't really see a pattern for how comments are ordered while a part of a thread, but it really messes up any back and forths that happen. Is it supposed to be ordered...

    Per-chapter daily view breakdown.

I agree! More analytics! That said, I worry that this would be a lot of work to implement (For both Tony and the server), as I think the current system just increments the number as the chapters are accessed. To make it work, new views need to be logged as individual database entries with...

    Viewing Votes

Oh, I didn't mean it like it "I must needs it nao!" kinda thing. It was an entirely convenience thing, and honestly it's not a big deal. I just got annoyed about it a few times, and thought that it was something that could put considered for a future feature. Sometimes things like this can crop...

    Viewing Votes

For a while, I've been annoyed that you had to explicitly go into a chapter and click on view votes to see the results of a poll made in your own story. It was annoying and took way too much time to do, especially if the poll was at the bottom of the page and you had a bunch of comments on that...

Popup asking for Feedback on low star ratings

An alternative is just to make rating removal universal, not just authors. While it's rare, a "remove my rating" button might be useful for people who decided that their rating was premature, or they rated something that they didn't intend to. Admittedly, the former is probably nonexistent, but...

Popup asking for Feedback on low star ratings

Ah, I have seen that happen a few times for the low ratings on my story. That said, I haven't really noticed it for the high ratings, but then again, the low ones are the ones that make a real impression since my story is almost 90% the same rating. I'm sure I'd notice the highs gone if it was...

    Something I noticed

Haha, well, I saw that earlier. I'll have a look, but I'll only write if time permits :blobrofl:

    Something I noticed

Oh I see. I read that wrong it seems. Your number sounds much more like what I expected. GL still needs some more love though.

Popup asking for Feedback on low star ratings

I do think that it's easy, but I also think that it's less than helpful. Either it'll draw people away from rating in genera, or often times they'll just click whatever without actually reading the options. A whole mess of noise indistinguishable from actual honest feedback would be harmful...

    Something I noticed

17% is BL O.o I was gonna make a joke that half the stories here were BL, but I thought the actual number was going to be closer to 10%. Kinda sad how rare Yuri seems to be on this site in comparison. I wanna fix that, but not sure if I have the skill to do it justice. Also that list @NiQuinn...

Popup asking for Feedback on low star ratings

I think being able to break down things automatically without reader input is preferable. People who throw out 1-2 stars are often haters, upset readers, or something similar. The majority of them aren't going to give insightful responses, no matter how easy you make them. What's better is...

    Tips in writing a story

A bit late, but I wanted to point out something that's been neglected. I think these suggestions are great for starting a story. Especially Jemini's post, but there's one thing that's critical to writing that most people tend to forget. That's a schedule. You don't need a complicated...

    Tags in a Novel

Ah, there was one idea I have, though it's slightly tangental. What if you can like/dislike tags in a story? If the readers feel that a tag isn't prominent enough or that the series fits perfectly into the tag, then they can give the individual tags a + or -, and you can see the value on the...

Trending & Other Front Page Lists

I understand that there are outliers like this, but I can't help but feel that because they're such outliers, that rather than doing something specific to cater to them, either they should instead take the initiative to promote their stories in other ways, or they'll manage to reach trending on...
