Cover for book 3 of girldragongizzard

Just finished this off for tomorrow's release: We'll work on it and come up with something fancier for the print version. Just needed something reasonably readable with a portrait of Meg on it. But the full version of the illustration also gives a really nice sense of her favorite hangout space.

    [daily] taking out the trash

We're inking an illustration for serious graphic design use for the first time in ten years. It's looking really good. We'll be dropping it in the Artist forums when it's done (cover for I Contain Megnitudes).

What's your checklist for giving specific rating to a story?

Have I read it? 5 Am I reading it? 5 Have I stopped reading it? no-rating Have I failed to start reading it? no-rating Ratings suck and don't really tell anybody anything except the fraction of an opinion of one limited reader, and 1-4 are mean spirited and hurtful.

I hate that elves live for a 1000 years. I don’t care if it’s the staple. It’s jarring.

See, the problem is, just as CrimsonGenius is failing to consider that elves are not necessarily derived from humans and are magical so they don't have to follow any biological norms at all, you're failing to consider that in science fiction and fantasy, alien computers from an advanced...

I hate that elves live for a 1000 years. I don’t care if it’s the staple. It’s jarring.

In one of our novels, the narrator finally sat down and did the math on its own age, and discovered that it wasn't just centuries or a couple millennia old, it was over 130 millennia old. Which, though it was an AI Tutor and programmed to function that long, totally blew its mind. It hadn't been...

    Memory loss

Most of our memory problems revolve around recognizing people, recalling who they are, and forgetting names. We can fail to recognize our parents, and we can forget about the existence of any old friend we used to spend a lot of time around. But, we've also had blackouts during the most...

    What Good Thing Happened Today?

Ah woman at the store got super excited about our mobility scooter because it's so stylish and well built looking, and she's looking for something like that for her daughter. So, we let her take a picture and send it to her daughter, and she gave her approval, and now she's got the brand name...

Warm up sketch of just before a Dramatic Moment

The gull gets away in this case. From Meghan's tumblr blog: "I've learned that this is the worst way to stalk a seagull. It's much safer and more effective for me to divebomb them in flight while they are pretty high up. That's when they are less likely to see me coming, and my higher terminal...

Author blocked me for trying to give critical feedback.

If you both don't mind some constructive criticism yourselves, you might want to check a person's profile before throwing random pronouns at them: You're misgendering her. Of course, if you can't do that because you're blocked, "they/them" is fine.

How is adult life treating you?.

We're nearly 50 years old. We're utterly disabled, unable to work besides write novels. It's a constellation of issues that prevent us from making much money at anything we do. And our government won't give us disability support (so weird and wrong to call it "benefits"). So, we're living with...

Yeah, that's definitely going to have to be fixed before it goes to print. It's been bothering the heck out of us as well. Book one of that trilogy is the only one that's finished yet. The other two covered haven't had their final pass. Thank you!

What do ya'll think about MC turning into Physical Monsters/Beasts?

As monsters ourselves, we eat it up. We like all variations of it, so long as the MC doesn't change back into human in the end. Or, if they do, they at least retain something of their experience that permanently separates them from the rest of humanity. (Ostensibly because otherwise what's the...

    Main Character Perceived

The MC for our most recent series, girldragongizzard, lives in current day (the story is happening Right Now - though it fluctuates between a few days behind to a few ahead as we're writing it and time flows narratively). But part of the story is that the magic that made Meghan transform into...
