    Writing Modern Poetry; A Guide

We wrote this poem back in 2003, and it very nearly won us a poetry slam (off by 0.3 points). We think it follows a lot of your advice here, except maybe number 7. Though, we aren't really hiding the meaning, either. It's just pure suggestiveness for the sake of being evocative of whatever...

    Powers borne through suffering

Long slow permanent shapeshifting to a new form that brings immense relief. The drawback: society fucking hates it, and attacks anyone who exhibits the power with endless bigotry.

    How To Genderbend Protagonists

Someone who is not trans to begin with who just has their body altered is probably going to have a significant amount of physical and/or social dysphoria over having a body that doesn't align with their actual gender. They'll basically become trans. There may not even be logical reasons for...

What is the point of publishing? Would you publish your story?

You quoted us, not Ellie. Learn how to communicate better and more consistently, perhaps. Or, please. Just try. If you want to be an author, it's probably a good idea.

What is the point of publishing? Would you publish your story?

It's really, really hard for a single author, who is also writing more novels, to put in the work that a publishing house can do. With traditional publishing, you have a team of people working on your book, from your agent and editor, to the copyeditors, graphic designers, prepress tech...

    Odd thought

We're defintely occasionally in search of a good editor. Almost can never afford one, but when we can we have no idea where to look. Most of our webnovels are definitely first drafts, though. But we'll get to editing them ourselves, if we can't find someone to help us, when we take them to...

    Is dual wielding overrated?

Still cool, though. Especially because it would mess a normal person up. It would never mess up a hero like Chow Yun Fat's characters, and it didn't. See? Cool. (but, yeah)

Let's educate each other on the Strongest Video Game Player Character.

Carrion. It is exceedingly clever. It can fit through the tiniest of crevices. It solves all the puzzles humanity can throw at it. It grows. It replicates itself. It learns to imitate what it needs to in order to survive. It escapes. And by then, it might as well be everywhere. The...

Chow Yun Fat made it cool, so it's still cool:

Which type of monster (the classic fantasy monsters) do you believe is the best represtentation for the deadly sin of pride?

Speaking as dragons, in the European traditions (particularly those shaped by Christianity), dragons have been used to represent all of the deadly sins. Each individual dragon varies. But Gluttony is just as big amongst dragons as Greed. And Pride has absolutely been the downfall of a few of...

I used to think that making short chapters would be easier

We're just barely managing to write 3K chapters for scribblehub and they're alright. But our ideal length, both as readers and as writers, is actually in the 5K to 7K range. And a good 10K chapter is a delight. When we're writing for print, mind you, where it doesn't matter if the chapters are...

All fanfic writers are creatively bankrupt thieves.

The vast majority of fanfics are harming literally no one. They exist only in fandoms, shared originally at conventions, and now circulated online for FREE. They aren't done for profit or any material gain, not even fame. They're done for the fun of it. They're done because the author is not...

What would be a fun monster to reincarnate?

Listen. There are people today who walk amongst you humans who embody this scenario. And we are not doing well. The coffee and almond poppyseed muffins are wonderful, but the need to fly never goes away, and there is a constant sad agony over not being able to rend intruders into small bite...

    What is your favorite game?

It occurs to us that we're not playing any games at the moment, and that's weird. Occasionally we'll crack open Diablo II: Resurrection, but we feel done with it. Our favorite game may very well be whatever it is we start playing next. But generally, we love anything that involves building...

Is it just me or does this really happen?

Another trick you could try: Pretend that you are telling your best friend about this story, but writing it to them in a chat or message. Like, your best friend is going to be forgiving and interested and focused on the points of the story, not so much how you say it. It takes the pressure off.
