Why Fantasy Writers Should Use Allegory

The fact it doesn't come until later doesn't negate what it does. In fact, one technique I fully intend to mention is to gradually introduce allegory. You don't have to rush to things. Also, there are stuff that can be viewed through an allegorical lens even in Season 1 with the takeaways and...

Why Fantasy Writers Should Use Allegory

I started creating a bunch of stuff for writing light fantasy, but each part ended up as a topic in and of itself, so... here we are. Starting with me discussing allegory.

    Writing Vulnerable Protagonist

Does this help? I can easily follow up on this, though.

    Writing Comedic Jerks

I noticed that the more they are the protagonist or closer to the role, the more you need those noble traits here and there to balance it out. That and/or suffering. Like, to have them suffer a lot for their rudeness to balance stuff out.

    Writing Comedic Jerks

People voted on this last week and I've done my best to deliver. Hope this one helps as I was up late working through this one.

    The Parent Comedy Archetype

Another comedy archetype in my whole mission to explore character comedy! With this, another week complete. If you want to see the schedule for videos, check my YouTube community tab. I'll have 4 videos again next week.

    The Importance of Archetypes

I haven't broken those parts down yet, so it makes sense to be hesitant. I haven't shown the whole picture, just one puzzle piece. At most, I'd say to hear me out when I explain its function in this system. Then, disregard it entirely if it doesn't work for you.

    The Importance of Archetypes

Been meaning to get to this, to follow up off of what I mentioned with my character creation system and go into the background stuff. So, good starting point here. Hope this helps as I find archetypes and the like to be super helpful starting points.

    3 Dimensions of Character

I wish so many explained this better as... Just I seldom run into people who handle this in a satisfactory manner online.

    Tips for Pantsers

A little something I put together for Pantsers. I have more tips, but will see if there's an interest in this topic or not.

Word count really doesn't stress me out since it's pseudo-productivity. I've been reading Slow Productivity by Cal Newport recently, and it's helped me put into words the issue I've always had with word count as a means of measurement. I plan to turn my thoughts into a script soon; it's just...

I Want Some Insight On This Topic

I... think I understand? So, first, xianxia, you just don't like it from the sounds of it. Which I totally get -- I find most people who write it boring as well personally. I say just don't write the genre. Also, you want to make a revenge story, right? But you're struggling to figure out how...

Curse of being a non native English speaker

Nah, I don't care about dialect-related stuff. I mean more reading comprehension skills.

Curse of being a non native English speaker

Sadly. :blob_facepalm: I'm far more critical of native speakers who don't know the language than non-native speakers.

Curse of being a non native English speaker

As a native English speaker, I'll give you props for being multi-lingual though. While I do possess a strong grasp of the language, I know I'd sound like an absolute fool in any other language.

I know it is too early, but...

Ahhh, the realm of traditional novels! Okay, time for me to step in. For length, it depends on the genre. If you want a default area to aim for, though, 80,000 to 90,000 words. And no, you don't want to go too big early on. People who tell you length doesn't matter don't know how the...

What pov did you use on flashback?

You're not. XD I'm doing the best I can with that. Some videos will definitely be harder on people there -- which I apologize for -- but my more recent work should be better. I would recommend turning on subtitles as well if I'm still difficult for you to understand when I'm doing videos.

    What makes them different?

That's fair! I think part of why I care to go into it is because I know so many don't know what makes up luck and might feel discouraged. Hence what I'll do in... um... a week or two from now, maybe.
