What Do You Dislike About Isekai-Reincarnation Stories?

Weird question - is it necessary for a character to die to be isekaied? Or is Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter one of the first Isekai heroes, ever? Heck, I couldn't quite follow what was going on, but it seems the "you" that the narrator keeps addressing in E. R. Eddings's The Worm Ouroboros...

It's always smut with you people!!!!!

I was thinking "reprobate" but that works too...

    2 Heroines = Harem?

Back in the sixties, several authors and producers assumed the future would be one of group marriages - Robert Heinlein dealt with this in Stranger in a Strange Land as well as some of the Lazarus Long stories (Time Enough For Love, The Cat Who Walked Through Walls, etc.). Gene Roddenberry also...

    I'm scared of my story

And remember - the scariest part is sharing the story in the first place (well, second scariest - scariest is drawing the attention of @Tempokai); everything after that is just added seasoning.

    I'm scared of my story

Just remember - other people may not be as excited as you are, no matter how big the point is... BUT they may find other moments to be even bigger. Just roll with it, and write, and hope for reactions - any reactions, even "Why the heck did you do THAT twist? We were expecting THIS twist...."...

Your MC guest stars in a Scooby Doo show.

Scooby Doo was designed by the artist going to breeders and looking for the WORST traits in a Great Dane - and then drawing them all. When I created a Scooby Who? game to run at conventions (Doctor Who meets Scooby Doo - not quite as silly as it sounds; if the Scooby Doo series that featured...

Name of MC you used to think of as "really cool".

Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos. Shub-Niggurath, the Black Goat of the Woods with 1000 Young (co-creation with Robert Bloch). Yog-Sothoth. Cthulhu, Hastur He Who Must Not be Named, Azathoth. And the ones he borrowed, like Father Dagon, Hypnos, Mother Hydra. And the ones added by other...

    What makes you motivated?

The vague hope of maybe, somehow, making some money at it. Not a lot, just enough to make up for almost a year of unemployment.

Explain the standard cultivation realms for dummies

Hmm - so, if anyone has seen it, would the K-Drama Alchemy of Souls be a Cultivation story then (or at least a Korean take on a Cultivation story)?

Your MC guest stars in a Scooby Doo show.

Depends on the story the MC is from. Jack Diamond would either figure out the mystery way too soon ... or just kill the bad guy and then realize it was only a dude in a mask. Kelly would definitely play along - both versions grew up on the cartoons. Original Kelly would also try to hit on Fred...

Or Standard Operating Procedure in some Cultivation stories... They get weird...

Which of the 7DS would you connect to each continent?

    1. I would actually suggest that North America be Pride more than anything else - all the negative and positive elements of the term are on full display 24/7. I know the outside world sees either Greed or Gluttony as the driving force here, but I'm pretty sure Pride is a much worse and...

It's always smut with you people!!!!!

I prefer to think of them as "Friends with Benefits"... I rarely (but occasionally) write smut, and never INTENTIONALLY read it myself (either I follow a friend's recommendation or don't see the tags ... or it's an Anita Blake type situation where the first book in a series was NOT smut but the...

Writing "Whenever you get stuck, kill a character"

I once killed a character just for snoring. I was recently introduced to the "Five Act" structure - that is the structure used for television shows and some movies - it is similar to the Three Act Structure but set up for more commercial breaks and a specific number of "beats" (which may be...

What method do you use to build your novel ?

Ah, the RPG school of writing? :s_tongue: 1. I usually start with a question: What if a person suddenly woke up in a different body? or Can someone write an Isekai with a System in a Western instead of a quasi-medieval fantasy setting? or Can a superhero story work with a noir inspired hero...

Introducing an annoying character (that I like)

That does not sound like it would be a problem for most readers. Might tick off the power fantasy crowd I hear exists on RR but otherwise, eh.

    Childhood Arcs In Isekai

I've only seen a few, and only one dealt with a real childhood arc (one had a fourteen year old become a god before hitting sixteen in about 200 chapters, so not sure if it counts) - the MC died in the first chapter, was reborn as an alien, died in that chapter, was reborn and died two more...

    Success for Anonymity?

I would want to negotiate a bit - I'd prefer to have some fame but let them keep the lions' share (and do the same for other rewards, financial or material). Maybe a 70/30 split where I'd get to have like every third book get the same level of success with my name on it (and they get some or...

    hi, I'm new here

This, exactly. I'm more into reading (and writing) stories that include LGBTQ characters than stories that are about LGBTQ characters, if that makes sense, myself

Introducing an annoying character (that I like)

How annoying are the characters - and, are they annoying to the READER or just to the MC? If they just annoy the MC, they can be a great source of either comedy or tension for the reader. If they annoy the READER then you may lose some.
