    Suicide in Fiction

I agree. I use the dark themes to create the conflict. Its the meat of the "hero" sandwich. Take those dark themes out, you just have bread with nothing between. And what's bread alone, I ask you. a side dish, if even that. A hero needs great evil to fight against.

Hello everyone! This is my first novel, and I’d like to invite you all to give it a read. I’m open to any feedback and criticism.

This might be one of those internet mysteries. Like Cicada. @Makimaam : how did you get a text sample. I can't get anything on the search by title name. I did find this, though... YingYan : Of course, this will also depend on your support. I'm trying to read the tea leaves here.

    Would you read this?

cowboys and aliens, I dig. And if the indians would have had death beams, things might have turned out different. Gotcha on the trope.

    Readers are Hiding From Authors

my screen name is stamped right across the book cover of a smut. who would i be kidding to hide anything i read. the more i think about it, it probably looks weird that I don't have smut on my reading list. i must be then viewed as some kind of pedestrian to the smut world, displaying such an...

Which "app" do you use to write(and save your chapters, etc)?

I never had any issue with the humble Notepad. Basic Word, if I felt I needed formatting. But for just typing and saving text files, what more do you need to create and edit a text file for the love of god. Folder: book-name. "Rough Draft" folder holds, you guessed it. The originals. I copy the...

    "snappy" dialogue...

there's no specific reason YA can't be done a little highbrow, with more intelligent books next to more juvenile ones. There's always been YA,there always will. Its in the execution, I feel. I just wonder why everyone isn't overdosed on vampire romance and magic schools by now. They have to get...

    Readers are Hiding From Authors

I though stalking showed you cared. My bad. Yet, that would explain a lot. People thought writers were all basically normal people? Color them surprise.

    "snappy" dialogue...

I can remember liking seinfeld and friends. A half hour of lighthearted fun. But something like "House, MD"... now *there's* something I don't want to miss. He's got one liners and snark, but he's a complex character. Why does whedon tickle my memory... is that the guy that wrote and directed X...

you got a lot of messages and points to your account. the focus group has high hopes for your proposed template. (to the untrained eye, the focus group could well resemble me and my cat talking it over)

directly below me, Alski hit me with a request for the "reply" button. I acquiesced to his request affirmatively. I'll run your request past a focus group, and see what they come up with. got a template?

Multi-pov series synopsis. To name characters or to not name characters?

I hear you. I feel you. I have one story, where... its complicated, like you describe. I've yet to post this story, as I have no idea how people will take to it. the protagonist or what would by any metric be? Kind of isn't. the other MC, you actually see through the protagonists eyes. In that...

    "snappy" dialogue...

Its one of those recurring phrases to come across. LIke the (in)famous "punchy" writing. Snappy dialogue, punchy first chapter. these things take on a life of their own and they sound really really cool to use the phrases. "I think you need a punchier first chapter; its not punchy enough" "you...

    Writing Prose quality check?

is that close enough of an approximation to "who what where when why", the five famous W's ??? you need to know who, that's obvious. They should be doing something, a what. You should know where they are in time and place, that's the where/when. Why is motivation or reason.

What's the smallest thing that could change your entire storyline?

In one story, my MC happens to meet and start going out with another (ends up being major) character. Couple stories later, they realize it. If that hadn't have happened the "big thing" (whole story, lol) wouldn't have gotten solved. A lot had to come together, ranging from idea(s) to brilliant...
