    Need writing advice.

Digital Cowboy only has about 15 chapters here - it hit 60 on PocketFM today. It's an Isekai/Western/System/Grab bag series Between Worlds is a mix of high and urban fantasy (high fantasy on another world, urban on modern Earth) The others are basically superhero stories, though Jack Diamond...

Prologue to a story that may never happen...

Because I didn't want to tie it to a gender (or even species, for that matter; the main characters are a human, a werewolf, a semi-immortal human with an ape familiar, and another I haven't decided exactly what she is yet...). Just wanted it to be a witness to the moment.

    Need writing advice.

Heh - this is my SOP - have a vague end goal in place, a bunch of scenes to get there, and then figure out the rest on the way (I thought this was a "character flaw" until I read the introduction to the collected X-Men/Teen Titans crossover comic and found out that was how Chris Claremont and...

Writing Try this fun creativity exercise!

Ah! Other than dad trying to "share the misery" when mom finally put her foot down and said "No more books until you've read everything in your collection at least once" (in college he bought War and Peace, a collection of Dostoyevsky short stories and something else by Tolstoy, but every time...

Writing Try this fun creativity exercise!

Except in my AP English class (which taught for a test that 95% of schools don't use), my teachers focused on the "Turn of the Century" stuff for the most part, with occasional forays to (modern translations) of Classical Greek or Shakespeare (Turn of the Century, in literature, is defined as...

    How would you feel?

I think "Evil Hero" might be more accurate.

Would your OC be a good digimon tamer?

Two of them probably would - David would probably know the Digimon characters well enough (almost certainly better than I do, having never played the game and only seen about eight episodes of the cartoon) to come up with a good strategy and win. Dane would muddle through. The others, probably...

Prologue to a story that may never happen...

Have started this one twice - once back as a teenager, and then again about five years later in college. Both times got to about chapter three and burned out. And yet... a contest on PocketFM may have given me the hook I need to force it out... if I'm willing to post in "real time" ... So...

Maybe someone is just trying to get the banned back together?

    This is Likely a Scam

As a guy who has had several jobs surrounded by female minds - I'm not even sure THEY know how female minds work..

    This is Likely a Scam

This is five years old but: Bad Contract Alert: EMP Entertainment and A&D Entertainment - Writer Beware Found a Redit chain that says they are "semi-legit" - they do pay, fairly well, but they are not as free with leaving the rights to you as they claim and there are a few other gotchas - but...

    I Find Creating Villains Difficult

The best villains have some sympathetic traits and/or some interesting quirks. Especially if those quirks look harmless at first ("Oh, he's an art collector? That's nice. Antique lampshades? A bit odd but ... antique lampshades from German concentration camps ... uh... yeah...")

    Feedback

RichelMark is either a person who does not speak English as a native language, or a bot. And potentially a scammer, given the odd but apparently "view oriented" nature of their posts.

Shorter, snappier synopsis, or longer and more detailed?

I tend to write shorter ones and only read the first two paragraphs (or equivalent) of longer ones (especially when they include lists of what you will or will not find in the story).

    Help, I Need Help

I would suggest directly asking the people saying this what they mean, and if they have any advice about specific scenes.

    Pacing questions for everyone.

Well, maybe if that suit is blue, has an S on the chest, and a red cape... :D Some of the best character moments, both as a writer and a reader, come from moments of small talk - especially when they somehow tie back into the story at some point. ...unless writing Slice of Life stuff... And I...

    How would you feel?

The first time I saw this done was in a movie, 1998's Fallen IIRC, the first line, said by the detective MC, John Hobbs, is "This is the story of the time I almost died..." And in the final scene, the villain finishes that line in his voice "...at the hands of Detective John Hobbes" and shows...

    Pacing questions for everyone.

The "problem" with pacing is that the ideas often come out at a different speed than would feel natural in the story to the reader (or to the characters). This is one area where authors are more likely to be blind to their own failings than a reader will be, and why editors and beta readers are...

Does a harem half to be romantic?

Or, real world, a bit of both - some romantic ties going in, some that develop, but most of the pairings are due to politics.

    How would you feel?

Kind of makes me think of Ozymandias in The Watchmen. It is cool if done well, but can feel like a flat-out betrayal if done poorly.
