As a writer, what do you feel your greatest strengths and weaknesses are?

Strength is probably dealing with the lighter moments of the story. Weakness is probably constant levels of description. That or just being consistent with writing.

If SH / SHF dies tomorrow...

I think it's published by Kitchen Sink Press...

Visual tricks that artists employ to make a character in a frame looks way bigger than they actually are?

Forced Perspective, Used to play with this a lot with photography. You frame the subject in the image so that they appear to dwarf the scenery,

Thinking of adding a few illustrations to my novel—good idea or distracting? ?

IMO, they work best in the Author's Notes or as their own separate "chapter" (perhaps with a line or two of text explaining what they are), just as some print books do.

    2nd person horror?

I keep wanting to rebuild one I was about halfway through but remember how dark it got. I kept having to step away from it for a few days, and then the hard drive it was on died with no backups. Each chapter was first person - from a different character. The three main brothers kept coming...

MC who starts human and then becomes nonhuman?

Sounds like a much slower version of the Character Funnel in "Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG" (Players create 2-4 zero level PCs with one random item that MIGHT suggest a race or class, and run them through a kind of simple meatgrinder scenario; PCs who survive - typically one per player - then have...

MC who starts human and then becomes nonhuman?

An earlier precedent would be the Well of Souls series I suppose, where body swapping, race change were frequent (and a sword was named Irving). Depending on the kind of change, a gradual shift might be better, especially if it takes several books to complete, rather than a sudden one, unless...

    2nd person horror?

Ramsey Campbell does second person horror fairly well. One story has you going through a surreal day, slowly remembering finding your family dead the day before, and then coming home to see their bodies still there - along with yours, and you remember killing them before you died (or something...

Any tips for writing a story synopsis?

That sounds like the voiceover for a movie trailer - which can be effective. What you want to do is introduce at least one main character, give a hint of the overall plot, and reveal enough twists to show you have a feel for where the story is going. You also probably want it to be a little...

No, transformations aren't supposed to hurt! =P

Vaguely remember reading something like that back in the seventies - a book that mostly dealt with transformations of some sort (though one of them was ... tangential at best; a person's brain was transformed into a blank slate by discovering the "Perfect Song" - it just took over his entire...

What do you do when as a writer you lose your passion for fiction?

I've never lost my passion for fiction, just my time to read it or write it. I have occasionally lost my passion for specific types of fiction (had a huge "The Destroyer" phase but was bored by the last two books I read in the series; occasionally feel the urge to read or watch a lot of Star...

How often do you check your story’s stats?

Initially two to three times a day. Now? The day after I post a new chapter or whenever someone asks a general question about them. Which comes out to about once a week for everything and usually another time that week for each story individually.

    Figuring Out The Do's & Don'ts

If possible, two initially, one or two the next day and one or two (so total of five to ten for the first week, depending on how often you believe you can update) on the days you expect to post new chapters

Or you could go for an Advanced ScribbleHub Substitute (almost, but not quite, entirely unlike ScribbleHub)...

If this goes down, I'll actually start using SubStack

Does this story aim too high for ScribbleHub? Honest feedback wanted!

I used to, back when I had a lot of the ASCII codes memorized and just held down the "ALT" key and typed in the code for it when I wanted one. Also the degree sign and four or five other symbols. But that was over 20 years ago.

    Story Research question?

If I remember correctly, that vehicle is a VTOL (Vertical Take Off/Landing) not a true helicopter - and that there are similar aircraft in existence currently, just not on that scale.

    Online safety act.......

The part that would worry me the most if I were in a country covered by this "act" is the section on "misinformation/disinformation" - because those terms are ALWAYS politically charged and change based on who is "reviewing" the data (or who is in power) at any given moment these days.

INVESTIGATION: New titles not always being at the top on the "latest series list"

Is this data from last month or are you listing the wrong month (June instead of July)?
