    OSRIC spells

In general, if the terms appear in multiple games, they're acceptable as long as you don't copy spell descriptions verbatim. And some spell names vary from system to system (Magic Missile is recognizable but definitely mechanically different between HackMaster current edition, Advanced Dungeons...

Resolved Novel doesn't show up on New Listing or Search

You don't get a confirmation, it just appears. It can take up to 48 hours, especially if you post on a weekend or during peak hours. Also sometimes it doesn't show up with only one chapter posted (had that happen once... wound up deleting it because it was more of a joke than anything else...

The Taxonomy of Deaths in Storytelling

Would it be appropriate to say "you killed it" without specifying which type of killing you did?

Your MC is forced into teen drama.

Depends on the character. Jack Diamond would assume it was an illusion and wind up getting himself in a lot of trouble. probably miss the dance in detention, or wind up banishing the school administrators to some other dimension if he has access to even 1/4 of his resources. Kelly (Strange...

Is there a way to easily make scribblehub tables)

I just used prose and framed it in "<" and ">" signs myself. <Your strength is 16. Your agility is 18.>

    Writing Tone shifting my novel

I just remembered one other place that seemed to do this well. I'd have to look up the title, but there's a Japanese TV series on Netflix about a police department with a bureau that investigates the paranormal. The scenes in their squadroom are pretty much solid comedy (the chief is a...

Writing I have one chapter to make my wife cry

The only way I know to force that kind of reaction is to get them to read it out loud. And even then, it's a crapshoot whether you can actually trigger tears, just generate sadness, or have them laugh at your overblown prose.

    Spammers?

Oh no -the emotion they found they brought with them: greed. (Two out of three times so far, I got them to stop bothering me by asking "Which story are you referring to?" ... and one I just laughed at, literally as the story referenced is just sample chapters of other stories... One did...

As an author, how do you feel when you reread your novels?

Like I've come a long way, but still have a long way yet to go.

What makes you want to support an author via patron?

When and if I start making some real money off of my writing, I intend to "share the wealth" - but that may be a long time coming.

What's your longest record of experiencing writer's block that made your novels go on hiatus?

2012-ish (pretty much the year my old desktop died and I started jobs that I had to drive to commute to instead of taking public transportation) to 2019 (just started back up before COVID hit and got into it during the lockdown)

How many chapters does it take on average to start gaining steady writer?

I thought that about one of mine until I was forced to cut down a few (one had just hit 5.5k and another was 4.8) for PocketFM (also had to pad a few that weren't 1k - wound up changing my chapter numbering by about 8 when all was said and done). Though I hated having to redo the entire first...

How many chapters does it take on average to start gaining steady writer?

Any way you could cut the chapters in half and post more frequently? Chapters that large can intimidate a lot of readers.

How many chapters does it take on average to start gaining steady writer?

Though there is no "hard and fast" rules - the "sweet spots" tend to be 20, 50, and, allegedly (have not gotten that far myself with anything here) 100. You'll see upticks when you hit each of those chapter counts. As to comments and feedback... those are completely random (and, IME, mostly...

    Uncommon writing advice

Really the "ideal" length for online stories seems to be "greater than 1000, less than 2000, absolute limits at 750 minimum, 2500 max." Then again, PocketFM insists chapters be between 1000 and 5000 words, with the "sweet spot" the 1250-2500 range so the rules are not that hard-and-fast.
