Writing Tips on how to write Mecha battles a little more interesting!

Before they got into robot dogs, Boston Robotics did a "battlesuit" for the military. The prototype worked (and was closer to a small, light mech, than to, say, Iron Man's armor ... probably closer to the Hulkbuster armor but more streamlined), but had too many issues to go into production. I...

As an author, do you promote your culture through fiction?

We had a family living in one of the apartment buildings I was at in Chicago who, I swear existed solely so that racists could point to them and say: "See?!" The oldest child never lied - because he ABSOLUTELY believed EVERYTHING he ever said, no matter how ridiculous. The only family member...

what's your favorite aspect when you are writing?

Those little moments that stand out, either because they turn the story on its ear, change the relationships between characters, or are just "cute" or "silly."

What writing advice helped you the most? or didn't?

Write when you can. If you're not writing, read. Don't follow it as much as I used to but it was very useful when I started out. Also the entire essay about how the created the X-Men/Teen Titans crossover comic book by the creative team had a lot of good advice, some intentional, some not but...

What do you feel should be in a reverse world story?

A complete reversal with the majority of politicians being honest, selfless and reluctant to be in the spotlight except while campaigning. Both genders have equal representation in the noble or sleazy categories instead of the usually-now-dominant females being like the worst examples of males...

Just don't Marry Christmas, the palimony is murder.

What does it feel like when writing?

Usually have some scenes appear but mostly I just "hear" the dialogue (part of why my descriptions are sometimes lacking) and get a sensory summary of the action sequences as I'm composing them, almost as if they already happened.

Have you conditioned yourself in writing?

Usually the second word you used, conditioning, is employed for this purpose, especially when self-training. It is a valid use of the word, but also a loaded one that can stir up a hornet's nest.

Cultural Question: The "Silent Samurai" style vs. Active Promotion?

Depends on the skill levels involved and which country of origin. A Central European knight, fully kitted out, would PROBABLY tear apart a novice samurai just because of the superior metal of their gear. But a skilled samurai against a modestly equipped knight would almost always win because...

What the lamest story concept you heard?

Given how rare it is to get useful feedback, and how often the "choose your own adventure" type stories fail (except on the dedicated site for those kinds of stories, and where most of them are ... Penthouse Forum level stores from what I hear), his idea is pretty dumb for a webnovel. I could...

Writing What do you think about a protagonist acting as an anti-villain against an antagonist acting as a hero?

Oh... does Dexter Morgan of the Dexter novels and TV show fit (IMO, the novels much moreso than the series but that's just my opinion - and based on seeing the original series from start to finish but not the follow-ups and reading two of the books)

Without spoiling anything, post one joke thats in your story today

"Joke" won't show up for a while but: "Stay your hand or I will not stay mine," a voice from behind Bates intoned. The voice was deep, low, emotionless and flat. Bates turned and saw ... something in the shadows, a figure that seemed to be made of darker shadow. Or at least garbed in it. It...

    Dead Genres?

Pocket FM just "spun out" a werewolf romance contest (IIRC Just closed last week) from their broader Paranormal Romance contest a month ago because there were so many submissions of werewolf stories. So there is a demand, at least in audio books. I have only seen a few decent steampunk books -...

Does this blurb make you want to give my story a chance?

Ah, in that case the grammar and awkwardness is appropriate. Not something I, personally, would be interested in, but I know others would be.

Is this concept strong enough to capture attention?

There was a TV series a few years ago that had a kind of similar concept (something like "The Lazarus Project" or something close to that)- a number of rare individuals are born able to sense changes in the timeline. Under very specific situations, they can travel back in time, but not to a...

Authors, do you have any favorite characters besides the MC?

Blood Diamond: Jessica and her mother. Diamond in the Rough: The kid who gives Jack help in one chapter. Strange Awakening: Too many to count, though Olean and Kelly's Dad are near the top of the list. Between Worlds: Malcolm and Audrey together (they are almost a single character, really)...

Need help with multiple MC story

Well, there's Lord of the Rings - the MC even seems to switch about 75% of the way through from Frodo to Sam (with Strider and Golum also sometimes taking center stage, Merry and Pippin even get their moments to shine). If you don't mind audio novels, you could check out my own Between Earth and...
