The winner of the Jakarta Performative Male Contest has been decided

And it was, I shit you not, the son of a famous Indonesian indie author who brought a Mieko Kawakami book with him

What is a performative male contest?

Which man can best perform being a man?

The meme of the performative male is in essence poking fun at the kind of guy who appears progressive or feminist, but is only doing so performatively, often by adopting hobbies, trends, aesthetics, and lifestyles viewed as being appealing to women. Kind of like the male version of a pick-me girl.

Change your banner to the jolly roger. The world has truly entered a great pirate era.

I hope we get another White Pharaoh appearance on Genshin Impact Twitter. It's been lonely without him

When the White Pharaoh appears, it is a hallowed occasion: one more month of Genshin Impact skin color discourse :blob_aww:
My reply will merge so I will write it here. There were also a lot of those, one cd disc with many games. I personally own a bunch of those 'compilations'. Obviously those were not official in any way. One CD disc with all HOMM games? Yeah, sure buddy. And of course half the games didn't work, while the rest lagged. They were however dirt cheap.

I feel like we might've had those compilations as well, but I'm struggling to remember specific titles :blob_cringe:

And yeah, it was really common for the games to just not work at all. Sometimes you buy a CD and it's a whole other game once you boot it up :blob_facepalm:

Yep. There were also a ton of modded stuff being sold as new games. I remember after playing Vice City I was looking for new GTA, and I had no understanding how to use internet back then. Obviously I didn't 'google' it and simply looked for it in those shops. So I ended up buying some kind of weird ass mod that added predators into Vice City.

I sure hope you mean the predators from the movie :sweating_profusely:

Modded GTA games were also a staple of 2000s gaming here, especially San Andreas. In fact, it was harder to find an unmodded version of the game :blob_facepalm:. It always had a Dragonball, Naruto, or DC mod slapped onto it, and of course it'd break if you actually tried to play the game properly.

Shoutout to my fellow zillennials. We occupy a weird spot between the actual millennials and the younger zoomers, so this is a safe space for us transitional fossils.

Every once in a while Weezer finds its way back to me (I've only listened to Blue and Pinkerton, and I intend to keep it that way)

This one's for all the goddamned half-Japanese girls, who do it to me all the time
Instead of Wordle, every day I look at the US Department of Homeland Security's tweets and count the characters and words :blob_hmm_two:
Finally filled out and submitted my scholarship application that had been terrorizing my psyche for the past month and noticeably worsened my vision.

Now it's time to let something else terrorize my psyche.
:meowsip:Fun fact of the day: Xwedodah (Persian: خویدوده khwēdōdah; Avestan: xᵛae¯tuuadaθa) is a type of consanguine marriage historically practiced in Zoroastrianism before the Muslim conquest of Persia Such marriages are recorded as having been inspired by Zoroastrian cosmogony and considered pious. It was a high act of worship in Zoroastrianism, and there were punishments for not performing it.

Incest is definitely wack, but it is interesting that it almost seems to be the default for a lot of the world...at least in the past :blob_hmm:

:meowsip: Incest like many other religious prohibitions of the past had an entirely practical background.

People of course noticed that it eventually lead to degeneration. So they noticed that it was bad. That is why they prohbited it.

The bible, for example, has a lot of such practical advice. Like installing railing on your balcony, so that people do not fall down.

Or not cutting down all trees to make siege equipment while sieging a city because it will lead to desertification. It was noticed already back then.

Or which people you must kill and which enslave upon conquering a city. :meowsip:
