I have a sincere question for longtime ScribbleHub readers and writers.


I didn't realize this platform has a strong audience for stories that include explicit or lewd content, and I completely respect that. However, the epic fantasy I’m writing doesn’t include those elements. It focuses more on mythic scale, stewardship, and long-term worldbuilding rather than romance or adult themes.


So I’m genuinely curious. Is there a readership here for slower-burn epic fantasy without lewd content? Or would that kind of story naturally struggle on this platform?


I’m not criticizing the dominant genres at all. I’m just trying to understand whether I’m planting my story in the right soil.


I’d really appreciate honest insight from those who’ve been here a while.

To put it very simply cause I'm lazy:

There's an audience for everything. You don't need to make gooner bait content, catering to the popular fetishes such as male to female genderbending, harems and lesmaxxing. Or even the overly autistic LITRPG obsession. But you can if you really feel inclined to sell your soul to build up more views.

Otherwise, you'll be fine.

I personally don't give two shits and write what I want cause I enjoy it.
And for some reason, I still get modest attention for my cringe romantasy and zombie psych-horror stories.

So you do you boo-boo.

There are more than enough readers who either don't care or don't want adult content, so why do you worry?

In the first place, does it kill you to only get 100 instead of 1000 readers? Don't try to create a popular story, but simply one you personally can be proud of, or simply enjoy writing.

Yes, there is. Who's work is it? Please check my signature. My fiction can't be called popular, but for a niche... the engagement isn't bad.

My fiction is a dark fantasy of motherhood in a post-memory apocalypse world. It's a nobledark that values domestic life over global peace. It's subversive... very few have equivalents.

However, compared to the list of popular fiction that regularly trend... my fiction is nothing but an ant. But I won't be discouraged. I'll keep writing even if I'm the only one left reading it.

Keep writing the story that you want... the readers might find your story.

Epic fantasy fiction actually has a better audience on RR. My fiction is on RR, although it only has tens followers. However, views continue to grow steadily, even without regular chapter updates.

This is because the RR algorithm relies more on recommendations than visibility. You might want to try your luck on RR.

I really appreciate that perspective. I think you’re right. The audience may be smaller, but that does not mean it lacks meaning.


Your question about popularity versus meaning really resonates with me. I am not chasing popularity. I would rather reach one reader who genuinely connects with the story than a hundred who skim it and move on.


My uncertainty is not about wanting a huge audience. It is about making sure the story has a real chance to reach the kind of reader it was written for. If that audience is smaller here, that is okay. I just want to be intentional about where I plant it.

The law of exclusivity also applies... fiction in a particular genre might be popular on a particular platform, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be popular on others.

For example, smut fiction is popular here but is strictly restricted in RR. Or, conversely, epic fantasy lit-RPG fiction is less popular here but is popular in RR. Sometimes we need to choose the right platform.

And if fiction wants to be inclusive across platforms, then genres must be made more general and more age-friendly. (Well, I'm considering writing wholesome fantasy.)

There are popular books that don’t fit the usual holy trinity here. Some gain attention quickly because the authors understand exactly what their audience wants and remain consistent. And no, it isn’t lewd content. In fact, stories that are excessively explicit or questionably lewd are often pushed out of the Top 10 Trending on SH.

So you can be a popular author while writing something that isn’t the usual preference. RR is overwhelmingly LitRPG, but many popular works aren’t litrpg at all. The same principle applies. The growth may be slower though, so don’t expect to gain 300 readers in your first week like certain genres here.

haven't checked SH in some time but mkst readers look for LN-style writing. I'd blindly guess this only increased going by the increase in fanfiction/translation.
