A waifu is a female character who possesses ideal traits (such as beauty, gentleness, caring, femininity, etc.) and is often considered an ideal wife.

A husbu is a male character who possesses ideal traits (such as handsomeness, strength, courage, masculinity, etc.) and is often considered an ideal husband.

An everyman is a normal person you commonly encounter even in real life, usually a humble character who doesn't stand out.

A monster is an inhuman character, usually not human, who possesses extraordinary powers.

I thought the term is husbando; I’ve never heard of husbu.

Anyways I like all of them. Though I generally prefer a female protagonist just for more relatability, but of course any would work if the story is good.

Well, husbu or husbando are both abbreviations of the word husband.

Ultimately, it depends on the series, and the narrative goals it has.
For example; in a heroic adventure-fantasy fiction, I definitely prefer a heroic male protagonist who embodies the ideal masculine traits, as an attainable ideal that men can aspire to, but these aren't just traits he 'has', they are traits he 'works to attain'. (IE: Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings). It's even better when his role is complimented by a strong female lead who embodies the ideal feminine traits as an attainable ideal that women can aspire to.
But for a cozy, homey, slice-of-life story, these kinds of things are less important. IE: Isekai Shokudou / Restaurant to Another World. This series, as an example, doesn't need a heroic masculine, or feminine, lead and benefits more by not having one.

What matters more to me, though, is that the characters are real. That they breathe and live on the page, and in the minds of the readers. They need to be multi-faceted and have real depth, and if they do I'm far more likely to stay interested, and invested, in the story. The protagonist's sex is irrelevant when they're just another cardboard cut-out of a trope, or worse, a "mary-sue".

Monster because they offer a different perspective. I'm always interested in how the mundane life is viewed by an outsider.
