Is there a way to tell what is indie writer work here and what is translation?

I'm new to scribble hub and don't get me wrong! I am super grateful to translators for all their hard work! I just keep commenting on novels praising the poster thinking the person wrote it only for them to later update the description that they didn't write it / is only translating - I'm just wondering is there a place I'm missing where people are listing the actual author of the novel or saying that they did/didn't write the novel?

I'd really just like to meet fellow creators as well because one of my favorite things is to get into a good indie novel and draw some fanart here and there as chapters come out, I really love supporting writers and their characters, especially hidden gems who aren't getting the support they deserve.

Oh thank you so much for letting me know! I will definitely report them from now on then! I did think it was strange and rubbed me the wrong way that I couldn't find the credit to the author anywhere easily ( especially because I did see some indie writers post credits even to their cover illustrators in their novel descriptions), I just thought I was being a newb though and didn't know where to find it. Thank you again!

man my algorithm must be crazy messed up (or just not cultivated yet since I only just started using this site) because I swear almost every novel that came up in recently posted for me were all translations with no credit and I only realized after the fact - and so true, I have a lot of friends who come from all over whose work they let me read and so I'm really desensitized to grammar and can easily enjoy novels for the characters and plot even if they aren't pristine as long as I know the intent. Picking out what is machine and what is just someone's second language is really difficult for me

Still machine translations.

Some adjustments have been made to make the story pass through filters, but still its machine translation.

Amazon gets them too (and they pointedly look away as still get a share of profits)

It isn't messed up that much.

It is easy to be overwhelmed with bots which can pull random stuff from the Internet and post it in quick succession to top the list.

The bots are turning the Scribble Hub into an aggregator site, even if it wasn't intended as one.

People around here to troll about fan-fics and AI, but it's usually not the point.

The problem is that the site has no defence against this kind of attack. It is a tiny site and it was never built for this volume.

What usually happens is that Tony (site owner, and only moderator) approves the story manually, rejects some, accepts other. He approves covers too. Once the story gets past this approval, it gets the free rein until it is reported and banned, but bots work faster than human moderators.

A good way of finding out translations are covers with Chinese, Japanese, or Korean language. 90% chance it is a tranlsation.

You're not alone, pretty much every reader here has this problem. My rule of thumb is to trust your gut. If you don't think the story is interesting, then it's probably AI or a translation. And if you end up being wrong, at least you get a valuable lesson about authenticity.

By the way, the SH forum is not a good baseline when it comes to SH material. Most people here are good writers (like me!) or good critics (lookin' at you @StoneInky ) who know what they're talking about. While not everyone is the infamously anonymous author of "Invisible Dragon," it's hard to find anything here worth reading.

Another way to tell if it is a machine translation is to plug in the first paragraph into GoogleTranslate, Translate it into Chinese, then copy the result and paste it in a search bar.

Or the title. Lmao, it feels like dejavu, cuz I use this when the I've read all available chapters of a story on NU and I can't wait for updates, so I decide to just mtl the rest.

Though a lot of them do change the titles, I've actually seen a particular story posted by two different accounts with different synopses, different titles, and the usual name changes. I only knew it because it was a story I had come across on a Chinese MTL site and had read out of curiosity, I think that was the first time I actually reported a story.

Exactly. It's probably one of the ways to avoid detection. Especially with the fact that Chinese novel synopsis usually have a very recognizable, distinct style.
