The animal I'll be using on is a polar wolfbear.
:blob_hmm_two: People who named that animal, would they go the extra mile to give it a personal name? Like we do with natural disasters? Or are we talking about the name for the whole speices?

I am going for 3rd person limited view.

So all MC knows it is a polar wolfbear.

It is a limited event boss, so no designated name.

Perhaps some ethnic motif that sounds obscure to the target audience might indeed be a good option.

Mutated fiends sounds redundant.

Like, dude is a fiend. After mutation, he becomes a fiendish fiend.

Magic fiend?

Demon fiend? Moon moon again.

Why do I need a prefix?

I don't, but I like to yap.

Also good for woed count.
Ok-ok-ok. Hold your breath for a second and hold your pants tight... Abberations. Although mutated abberations sound retarded, you can probably add something else and make it work. Vile abberations? Vicious abberations? Fiendish abberations? Magical abberations sounds nice in my opinion.

Reminds me there is a map called Abberation in Ark. The creatures there are mutated to have bio luminescence. Abberant Beasts is cool.

The meaning of a word in its use in language. If "magical beast" fits to your story, why bother changing it? It perfectly encapsulates what you want to portray. Changing the synonym besides magical doesn't change the underlying fact that it's a beast. If you want to write with natural language just refer them as "beasts," "monsters," or whatever derogatory sounding simplification that says "danger." If the "magical beasts" are common enough, the language will commonify itself to the context, down to the most simple thing.
