We all have our own scrapped ideas for a story, whether it's an original or a fanfic. You spent your time playing out the plot and characters in your head, maybe worldbuild a little here and there, but then you scrapped it. It could be because you were unconfident, lazy, or just plainly forgot about it. What matters is, we all have them.

At the time, the idea might have felt like a stroke of genius, like you truly had found a story no one has ever done before, or maybe a story you know will be your magnum opus. But when it pops back into your mind years later, your face shrunk instinctively.

Maybe you realized the plot is just a ripoff of something else, or maybe it just sounded stupid all of a sudden.

Have any of you had this happen? How often do your old ideas make a comeback and how likely are they to make you want to punch your old self?

In my case, it reminded me of the absolute edge of my 14-year-old self with a story revolving around a bunch of cluttered plots: magic, terrorists, dystopian, sci-fi, romance, revenge, school, reincarnated gods, angst, etc. I never actually wrote a single word of it, but I played out the plot of the story countless times in my head when I was young... and boy, it was every edgy kids' wet dream.

I have one. A guy who transmigrated into a zombie apocalyptic world as a woman. She have the power to summon the plants from Plants Vs. Zombies to fight the zombies. Oh, she's also getting fucked by men. I started making this story in my head around the time I first got introduced to AO3, you can probably understand why.

Basically a genderbent person sent to another world filled with zombies and getting dicked down by men.

I once had the idea of a random star (gaseous giant) falling in love with the sun, they communicate using photons in a manner similar to an internet for the stars, and at the end of the story the star realize that he has been catfished by the sun after he had self exploded to travel millions of lightyears to reach the sun...

Well let's see, I have one about a young elf woman who goes to the big city and ends up working at a lesbian brothel. Is that cringe enough?

i can see that on the top 3 of the trending page
in fact I'm pretty sure I know a yuri manga or two with a similar concept.

I actually wrote 15 chapters of the dammed thing but the only person I have to edit my work is my sister-in-law and I just can't send that to her lol.

I have more scrapped ideas than I could count, dating back 40+ years. Some creep up as side plots in ongoing stuff, some languish forever, some mutated into completely different things. And some are just sitting there, waiting for me to finish working with other stories and come back to them. They may only wait a day or two or may be waiting forever.

Here is my scrapped Idea from a fanfic. There is a college student working as part-time Naval Officer. He later get killed and reincarnated as A German Frigate from Modern Warship (FGS123).
