Wondering how to post the updated version of a story

Hello everyone, I need a bit of advice.

I'm currently fully rewriting one of my stories and was wondering wether I should create a new story with the title alluding to the story being reworked or if I should edit the existing story? On the other hand I actually want to keep the first version up without changes as some sort of comprehensive history.

So I wonder what would be the best point to go forward with.

I once had that thought when I got a splendid idea of how my book could have been written, but at the end, I chose to incorporate the two and I was really satisfied.

My rewrite is still the same story, but with some great expansions, since I feel like I did the story a disservice by trying to be short. The main inspiration for this shortness were the bunch of those pulpy shorter horror stories and murder mysteries written between the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century.

I actually remember a viral tweet where someone asked about how to write longer stories (theirs were about just 2000 words long), which made me laugh, since I've the opposite problem My stories are usually very long and I would like to learn how to write a satisfying story with a shorter word count (about 20,000 words for me).

How many readers and views do you have? It depends on your existing "capital".

Not that many, which is why I currently trend towards creating the rewrite as a "new" book.
