Which novel writing achievement are you pursuing?

(1) A novel with masterpeace-level, in-depth narrative quality, or (2) a popular novel read by hundreds or even millions of readers?

Popular. I would rather have a story that is read by the masses than something that gets on every “look at me” person’s bookshelf, still in its wrappings after 10years.
