I first heard this on a sit-com ("Head of the Class") but learned later it is true - a certain Cuban pitcher was torn between becoming a professional baseball player or a political leader. He did well in the minor leagues but bombed out in his first major league game due to errors made on the mound, went back to Cuba in disgrace, and within two years Fidel Castro had taken over the entire island.
