The Fanfics got demonetized, since it's a possible copyright issue on part of the website.

The lack of prior notice for fanfic authors is the site owner's call. Though since you are a user here, you agreed to the site Terms & Conditions (when signing up), which included a clause that basically says it's in the site owner's (that man named Tony) discretion whether to give you warning or not.

Let me be the first person to give an actual answer instead of a canned 'read the TOS' (which doesn't even apply here) or memes.

No one knows.

Monetization of fan works was completely purged from the site due to legal issues, and those tags stopped working at roughly the same time. Here's a thread where others are wondering about the same thing, and have yet to receive an actual answer:
