blerp bloop? That's because you are not a human being.
It's been 40 minutes what is bro cookingTyping it lol
my rule of thumb is only describe what is important for the audience to know. does it make a difference if she's blonde or brunette? likely, as that can affect peoples' perception of someone. same as if they have freckles or blue vs purple eyes, etc. Obviously you want them to picture the character. But more importantly, you want them to picture how your narrator sees the character. I tend to write 1st person, so I focus on what my POV character would see about them.Ya think so? Glad to hear, but I'm just concerned that after 3 characters like that, people are just gon remember their name and feel, not any other traits D: And there's a lot of characters with the same personality
This might be my least favorite part of writing, too. I've always been terrible at describing people. It also feels weird to me to (for example) have the protagonist meet a new person, then spend multiple sentences going into detail about their looks. It throws off my rhythm. And I'm absolutely terrible at describing characters.
I got a clear image in mind, but I don't know the words to describe that image of a human being.
I will literally drop any book or story (that isn't Lord of the rings itself) if it wastes my time on long descriptions of stuff that doesn't matter. If you wanted to paint a picture so bad, go to art class.Name and feel are all that matters in a novel. Long character descriptions are boring. So don't worry.
I think it depends on the story. My currently story starts on the MC's last day in his home world before isekai'ing into another world. My next story starts similarly, but on a completely different tone.Beginnings, How far do I go back? Every time I think about where I should start a story I go into this horrible spiral where I end up at the birth of the universe.
Admitting that my editors are sometimes right. I get it in my head that "this is the way I see it and it's fine."For me, I hate coming up with a title. Sometimes it's easy. As I'm writing, a title pops into my head (such as with DragonBound). Other times, I start with the title (Lay the Dragon). But more often than not, neither of these are the case, and I end up going through like 4-10 working titles before finally settling on one that's "not as bad". which kinda sucks because now I have work for the same story under 4-10 different titles, plus the final title on my computer.
And for note, I don't mean things outside of active progress. Yeah, we all hate that lack of motivation, or trying to find time without distractions to write, but I mean actively making progress to prepare the story for consumption by your readers—titling, cover art, planning, plotting, storyboarding, etc.
